Mastering Link Building

I was just watching Jason Fladlien's videos on time management where he talks about mastering any skill quickly.

One of the techniques he talks about is braking the skill you want to learn down to 5 key components and then systematically mastering them...

So I was thinking about that, as it relates to link building. What would be the 5 top link building strategies a person should master to rank for their keyphrases?

I'm no SEO expert, and I was hoping this idea would spark some conversation and debate about the top methods, but I came up with the following (as my top list):

Article marketing
link wheels
high PR community backlinks (ie Angela's packets type links)
blog commenting
feed (RSS) syndication

Do you agree?
What do you think are the top techniques and why?

    Put your links in places your intended audience will actually click on them and come visit you. Do that and you get traffic, and you'll be rewarded by search engines as well.

    Dumb people chase after links that real humans will never see.

    You should also do video sites, and press releases, and the link wheels aren't as effective as other strategies. Although, it is easy to do. I also love Angela's packets =) Make my blog a little more powerful, and actually get me a little more traffic.

    I'll be doing more article marketing, and videos too =) It's getting hard for me to keep up with blog comments since I always have to read but I want to do that since they're a nice and easy way to get links and traffic.

      James, you're breaking the first rule of time management: 60 second decisions!

      Remember our talk in philly over a bunch of beers?

      It's not so important to pick the "exact 5"... so you should just pick five things you know are pretty important, and start building systems for each. Then, through EXECUTION (not THINKING), you'll discover what to tweak, what to keep and what to trash

      If I were to master link building, I'd focus on creating these five systems...

      1. SOFTWARE Automation
      2. High one way PR links
      3. OUTSOURCEABLE link building
      4. Innovation

      Meaning this - I'd pick the 3-4 ways that seem most promising for automating backlinks with software.

      Then, I'd create the best way/combo of ways to get high one way pr links that I could do in a 10-30 minutes a day.

      Next, I'd make a list of the the PR link building strategies I could easily outsource, and start IMMEDIATELY outsourcing the top 1.

      Next, I'd set aside some time I spend each week just expirementing, trying new things and tracking results.

      That's it. There's you system. Now EXECUTE it!

      Notice how it's only 4 things? I used to narrow down to 5, but lately I just use 4 and have found it works better for me. Which is a lesson on system building. First, build it. Second, Make it "unconscious". third - tweak if desired

        I don't know about you, but it was -33 degrees here last night. Hope you got that new house built and got a good heater installed!

        For anyone who read Flad's post above, he just gave away an amazing way of thinking that can literally make you HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars. I know it can, because I know Jason personally and I've seen him do it!

        Systematize everything!

        Jason does this with everything from his morning routine to how he creates products. If you can make tasks unconscious processes - you can do them quickly while still leaving your mind free to work on other things... that's mutli-tasking

    For me the top technique is rss feed because you benefit from the backlink and your content will be indexed in google fast.
