Help me figure out backlinking

Hi everyone. I thought I had backlinking all figured out and was seeing really great results with my efforts. I had a few pages as the very first result on Google page 1 for the keyword. However, my SERP for these keywords continues to drop no matter what I do about it.

I have continued building backlinks to these internal pages and I even set up an internal linking structure on my blog because I read that having a good link structure on your website will help with your SEO. Still, my pages keep dropping, slowly but surely, and now my prize SERP result, the one that was actually making me a decent amount of referral fees is in the 10th spot, and the revenue has completely dried up.

Now, in trying to fix this problem I have continued building backlinks with the anchor text for that keyword in them, but the result continues to drop. Does anyone have an answer for this? The pages that are beating me out have less backlinks and the pages aren't even optimized as well.

I'm trying to find a way to fix this so I can get some of my traffic and sales back. My blog was getting almost 200 hits a day, and that has dropped to around 50 or 60 now without this keyword result.

Now, should I keep building backlinks to that page with the anchor text or should I just focus on building backlinks to newer pages on my blog? I have a few posts that I haven't backlinked at all, and I think that I could move them up to page 1 without too much trouble, I just wonder if that would help me other SERP result at all.

Anyway, I'm very confused about why this is happening and I would really like some help with it. The only thing I can think of doing is starting a new website and just wait for the current website to stabilize. I know new websites (and this one is only about 2 and a half months old) won't maintain good serps long because google likes them at first because they are new and fresh content, and after its been seen for awhile it drops...but I guess I'm asking if it will come back eventually or at least move up from #10 spot. #10 spot is terrible for traffic and rankings, at least for this keyword.

Anyway, I hope someone can help me.

    Hi Jacob

    I have a couple questions for you first where do you get your backlinks from? Socail bookmarking or keyword luv, comment luv?

    I know from experience that if Google sees too many backlinks too fast it on a new site it will penalize you for it.

    You got the right Idea about adding internal links and anchor text your posts to your domain name that does help a lot. But internal links should be done when first setting up a new site in the beginning.

    and I would also say that you are right about creating another site and let this one age for a while give it some time to gain some trust with Google and then after this site has been online for a while and has more trust with Google it should more up in the rankings.

    If it doesn't what you could do is add a relevant youtube video into your site as Google loves youtube

    It's not about how many backlinks you have. It's more about how high of quality they are. I used to go crazy getting a lot of backlinks,but then i realized that it wasn't about how many I had.

    Now, I have my main blog and 3 relevant blogs around them with a anchored link to the main page. Make posts on the relevant blogs once or twice a week with very good content. Keep doing this and than begin to focus on building backlinks to the surrounding blogs (which are linking to your main page). This is where the power is - having powerful pages link to yours with your keyword anchor text.

    You can also do this by buying links on relevant blogs, it's really about preference and budgeting.

    • Trust authority of host domain - 25 percent
    • Link population of specific page - 22 percent
    • Anchor text of external links - 20 percent
    • On page keyword use - 15 percent
    • Traffic and CTR data - 7 percent
    • Social graph metrics - 6 percent
    • Hosting and registration - 5 percent

    I wouldn't spend to much time worrying about back links, if you post quality content it will naturally get links back to it.
    If you're not on Twitter or facebook, it's a good way to get your info out there.
    If are really worried about getting backlinks, posting on blogs is a quick and easy way to get back links. Find a few "dofollow" blogs, the higher the page rank the better, and comment on a few post every week for a few months.
    Article directories is also a good way to generate backlinks and interest in your content, but in the end, it's all about quality content.
    If you have poor content, you'll have a harder time getting natural backlinks.

      A backlink is just a link to your site from another site. Google sees links as votes for your site so generally speaking, the more links you have the better your site's rankings will be in the search engine. The backlink should contain descriptive text so Google knows what your site is about.
      eg the site in my sig is about web hosting.

    I strongly suggest going after your competitors links. Yes social bookmarking, comment luv profile links, link wheels, etc' are great too. But, think about this: If your competitor is ranking for a term and get backlinks from specific sites...wouldn't that be worth your time.

    It is also very easy..too.

    Use SeoQuake (a firefox add-on) to find links to a specific page...and download it to excel. do that for the top 3 or 4 results...

    sort by PR and place a link on every page you can...don't think too much...whatever sticks - sticks
