How long has it been? For a stall you could tell him Google is switching over to their new search system (caffeine) and updates are really slow during the transition. You're not the only one to complain.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Are they not showing up as backlinks in Google or are they not getting indexed? Not the same thing as Google will not show all your backlinks, try searching for them using the username or some other piece of text that was used in the backlinks like possibly the url you are linking to.

Have you done anything (created an rss feed/ping them) to let the search engines know where the links are or are you just letting them find them? Sometimes it can take awhile.

It's been 2 weeks and he's texting me every other day wondering what's going on. he's not happy, and i've been trying to explain to him that it takes time, because of how technical this is, but he doesn't see it.
all i'm trying to do is get 2 links indexed. didn't know it would be this hard.
      ugh!

If you are trying to get them indexed: Ping-o-Matic!

...Get someone to do some social bookmarking on them too if you want them for sure indexed.

No one can guarantee certain ranking. You just have to wait for google to crawl the links. It may take sometime depending on how long the site has been up and how old the links are

Tell your client that the effect of backlink building can't be felt overnight. Also, try variations of anchor texts when you build your links.

    6 weeks
Google says so in the LBL listings
sign up for googlemaps and the confirmation msg you get from Google says it will take them 6 weeks to sort out where your site should be in the mix.

    Hi bringinrevenue,

Getting "ranked" and getting "indexed" are two different things. You must be indexed to be ranked, but getting indexed is only a prerequisite and does not guarantee ranking for your targeted keyword.

You can verify whether a link is indexed or not by using the "site:" search operator in Google's search box followed by the domain name with no space.

Your post did not offer any specific details about what you did or did not do. Could you elaborate on what you have done to get your client ranked or indexed and please clarify as to which of these two that your are having an issue with.

thanks dburk! you're right, i didn't give enough details.
i'm trying to get the links indexed (they don't show up at all on google). the keyword is a persons name and should get top ranking on it's own (not a common name).
anyway, i've edited the meta tags and title properly, had the keyword show up 2 times in the content. I've also did a few social bookmarks.

        Hi bringinrevenue,

If you have a Twitter account try posting a tweet about the page with a hot link. Google has an army of bots crawling Twitter at all times and you should get the new page crawled within a few days.

If you haven't already done so, I would check to be sure that the target page is not being blocked by your robots.txt file or your privacy settings if it's a Wordpress Blog.

          Hi bringinrevenue,

You won't believe it but one of the fastest ways to get something indexed is to put it here at the Warrior Forum. I have read in some threads that they posted something here and it showed up in their Google Alerts in less than 10 minutes. Put the link in your Warrior Signature.

But you should try many methods as well such as:
          1. Ping the page using PingOMatic
          2. Bookmark it in jumptags, propeller, mixx, mister-wong. etc.
          3. Post the link in your blog, preferably Blogger blog or any blog which is continuously updated.
          4. Build lots of backlinks to that page, Angela's backlinks preferably..

          Hope that helps..

Did you setup the domain in Google's "Webmasters Tools"?

I always set it up with new domains after a few days, and it helps me keep tabs on what pages are indexed and not. And yea you need to get indexed first before you can get ranked.
