Cleaning up a 'messy' site

Hi all,

I have a site that's about 12 months old.

It's a news / content based website, with 1-2 news posts every day (Mon _ Fri).

During the first 8 months, I set up a number of syndicate deals with websites in the same niche. They would allow me to republish their news / features on my site provided I gave them a citation.

The thing is, it's absolutely nowhere in the SERPS so I'm wondering whether I should clean it up a little.

That is, go back through all the 'duplicate' or borrowed content, delete it and make sure any links are re-directed to other areas of the site.

I guess my question is - I understand Google looks at the number of pages to crawl and gives a higher ranking to sites with lots of content. However, the flip side of this is that although my site DOES contain lots of content, most of it has already been published by other sites (with higher authority).

Q: Should I delete this content?

What do you reckon?
