Is PPC dead for Affiliates?

My #2 goal for the New Year was to start using PPC to boost my affiliate sales.

But after doing a little more research it seems like Google has been hitting affiliates with the BAN Stick, and not really providing any reason as to why.

Of course it's because of the new FTC rules, and because of recurring billing practices by companies who give away freebies.

But does that mean that everyone with a free report, 7 day promotion to a product is suddenly a scammer?

I currently have a few profitable PPC affiliate campaigns up, but honestly I'm not sure if they're just flying under the radar! What I mean is when someone clicks on the link, they go to a site, where I talk about an ebook and recommend it. When they buy it I get a commission.

Hopefully I'm wrong, and other people here are still running affiliate review sites, and not getting banned. I still want to get into PPC to make some more $, but I don't want to go about it the wrong way and lose it all.

No.. Nothing ever dies, you just have to take new approaches.

Bidding on "Sports Tickets" and promoting stub hub is always a bad idea; think outside the box or PPC is your worst nightmare.

I've been wondering the same thing.

Recently I've been strongly marketed to by Chris Carpenter and the Google Cash system (basically using software called Cash detective to do affiliate PPC adwords campaigns).

I'm basically in the same position as you - fairly new, have some affiliate stuff going on, but wanting to ramp it up and get into ppc.

Had I not heard so much about all the slaps by google recently, I have to say I would have bought into the system already. Now I'm very hesitant.

I'm aware of other opportunities in new and other markets, but as far as adwords is concerned - what do you guys reckon?

Yeah you need a new approach I guess but I have been using Social Ad's and found success with that.

ooookaaayyyy........phew...re GCD, thankfully just found a thread all about Google cash Detective (can't post link here as I'm new, but if you search for it you'll find it)

Huge thread about the product, but also useful comments about nature of ppc campaigns these days.

As long as PPC is available, I can't see how it is dead for affiliates.

I use PPC as one of many sources to build my business and I have mainly been an affiliate promoting other people's stuff until a few months ago.

I still use it because it is an awesome way to get traffic fast!

    Here's the deal:

    1. As an affiliate, you should be running a business.
    2. If you own a business, then search engines want your business.
    3. If you are smart, you should follow the rules.
    4. Think outside the box!
My advice is to build content rich sites to send traffic with PPC and build a list. Then, cultivate that list to make it responsive to you. Making it responsive is easy when you add value. People are not stupid.

Too many affiliates are too lazy to do the work necessary to add value to the consumer. That is why affiliate marketing is getting a bad rap.

If you really think about it, all the guys that have huge lists are just affiliates themselves because they are always promoting other people's stuff.

Use PPC as one of your marketing channels to gain new customers and leverage its power to build your business.

At the end of the day, it's all about running an ethical business and providing value. If you do those two things, PPC will never die for your affiliate business.

    My two cents

There is a large risk involved with PPC, if your not willing to invest money ($100-400/per campaign test), then you might as well move on to something else, bare in mind it can take 5-10 attempts before finding a profitable niche, that's $500-4,000 just on finding a profitable niche, bare in mind you'll probably make money off each campaign, you may not always be profitable though.

PPC is not dead after all, this is how google makes "most" of it's money from. These days you have to have your own website to be accepted by PPC and even if you do you might still get flaged, I stopped using ppc on my first day when I started IM when I lost 200 bucks in one day, I was like oh crap now what haha, since then I haven't touched ppc and just used seo and other free methods.

Anything affiliate-related I try with Adwords - optins, surveys, product comparisons, you name it, gets slapped with a LQS. I gave up. Maybe the PPC gurus have a different experience, I can't be bothered with it anymore.

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise
