ok so i just purchased a new domain and then installed a free theme on it, when I had a look I realised that my site had adsense down the side, I don't know anything about adsense, nor do I have an account, I don't know if its simply an example or they really are running adsense through my site

here is the domain http://trainingdogobedience.com/ its a bit of a mess as you can imagine a site only 2 hours old to be, any responsess will be appreciated

Yup thats adsense all right. See if you can remove it from the sidebar in wp-admin.

note: sometimes it comes up as the adsense links we are used to and sometimes as a banner ad, but what I'm talking about is on the right hand side of the page

ditch the theme and find a new one that isn't preloaded with somebody elses ad junk... it's not like there aren't a gazillion free wp themes available.

it's kinda bs the theme designer did that... it's worse than my plugins that force links into the users blogroll.

Many free WordPress themes have links embedded in them, this is common as theme developers sell link space on those themes...that is how they get backlink juice to their site.

That ad is probably hard-coded into the theme itself. You will need to open up the actual php file, find the code, and either delete it or replace it with your own.

If the theme follows the standards in WordPress development, the file name would be sidebar.php or sidebarright.php (or something along those lines).

Depending on how they have it embeded, some of them go so far that if it is removed, it ruins the whole theme or it stops functioning altogether as it calls another function file instead of just the script being embedded.

Sorry, I think I am rambling in Geek terms...anyway, not all WordPress themes are created equal, nor are all theme developers.

Here is a link for some great, free and probably more clean WordPress themes that might help:

excellent link, if it's from smashing it's generally high quality. they have some amazing free themes that they have commissioned themselves that are on par with themes you would have to pay for.

a couple more smashing links just to create confusion when you can't decide which one you like the most
