Way to boost Adsense sites with authority, outgoing one-way links!?

I have seemingly been getting quite a boost on my Adsense sites by including outgoing, one-way, authority links as references I used to research my content.

I focus on including one-way links to site that have high authority (not necessarily high PR per se but more importantly that show up with that + sign Google places under the site link such that you can be taken to more content at the site by clicking on it).

Anyway...the main problem with outgoing links is of course that visitors will disappear through the links to never click on an Adsense ad.

Not too big of a problem mind (I don't think) in that I place the links way down at the bottom of the page such that readers who get that far aren't likely to click out on an ad anyway. But still...

I have been wondering if Google reads links that are not live links? There is indication that they do. Does anyone have any links to authoritative sources that would support this theory (i.e. Matt Cutts or high profile SEO types)?

Or even personal experience with this?

Authority sites may on occasion want to link out to other authority sites but without including live links. Google is aware of this and may count those outgoing links the same as live links. At least that is what I have read.

The benefit in creating dead links at my Adsense sites is that I can include one-way outgoing links to authority sites and thus be looked on as a more valuable site by Google myself for doing so...while not making it easy for site visitors to leave my site other than by using the back button or clicking out through an Adsense ad.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Carlos

Well done you've stumbled upon a gem , It does work yes but only in some instances , in the past ive experience sites that have been penalised being bounced back by linking out to authority sites in their niche and too what you have experience that they give you a little boost.

Although it doesnt work with every site i must admit i do believe in it having some affect.

As for people leaving your site via the authority links are you tracking exits on google anayltics ? what does that tell you ? are they leaving through the links more than your ads ?

I don't do many one-way links on my static domains.

But my blogs, well, that's another story. I regularly do one way links, as normally I am commenting on a news article or current event. And my blogs are pretty high ranked, and, IMHO, one way links were made for blogs.

But...I never make the links open in the same window. I always do the links so they open in a new window, either with "target=_blank" or "target=_new"

You probably know this already Paul but Google doesn't care if one's pages are static HTML pages or blog pages or anything else. If one-way outgoing links to authority sites are of benefit they will be of benefit on whatever page you put them on.

However I definitely would not include one-way links out within the text content of my Adsense sites. That would kill a lot of visitors clicking out away from one's site.

I put them way at the bottom in a clump. About 4-9 outgoing links. I look for one's that are authority sites and use them if I have learned something from them which has helped me write my Adsense pages.

My contention in this thread or what I am interested in finding out more about is not so much whether one-way outgoing links give us SEO juice, they do, but rather whether turning those links into dead links will give us just as much link juice while diminishing the likelihood that visitors will click out through them.

      Hi Riverwire,

It's hard to say how much this helps but it does seem to help some. Of the 8 Adsense sites that I have developed one ended up in position 5, another one is at position 14 (bounces around between 14 and 17), and one bounces between 37 and 42.

Thing is some others that I have developed have ended up not even appearing at position 700 LOL (I think I overoptimized that one with a keyword density of 7.2).

As for people leaving your site via the authority links are you tracking exits on google anayltics ? what does that tell you ? are they leaving through the links more than your ads ?
I don't use Analytics. I don't like giving Google everything including my kitchen sink type of thing. I prefer to write my own scripts to analyze my own raw server logs. That way I can filter out my own IP addresses and otherwise filter the data in whatever way I want.

My Adsense ads are a 160x600 skycraper on the left. By the time visitors get to the bottom where my resource links are the ads have disappeared and are no longer visible on the page. Yes...I can put additional ads down there but for now I want the pages to be simple and not come across as too close to being the bad kind of MFA sites that are overloaded with ads busting out of every seam.

I figure if someone gets down to where the resource links are they aren't the kind that will click on my Adsense ads anyway. At least I hope they are not LOL.

In any case I am thinking of making the resource links dead so that visitors have a much harder time copying and pasting the links into a browser to leave while still getting the Google SEO benefit from having the url's (though not live) on my Adsense pages.

      Carlos

PS. It dawned on me that I never answered your question Riverwire! Sorry about that. I don't get enough traffic at any of my Adsense sites so far to really have done much in the way of analysis to determine how the traffic I am getting leaves. I am still trying to get them into the top ten. The one that ended up in position 5 was a dud. Despite the Keyword Tool traffic stats the actual traffic in that niche is way below what was reported. I am hoping the 14 and 37 positioned sites will be different in providing me some measure of the traffic that the Google Keyword Tool indicates should be there. That's when I will start doing some more detailed analysis.

Totally agree although i wouldnt be sure that making the links dead would be a good idea, after all google looks at things in a natural sense and would see a useful information site linking to an authority figure extremely natural, obviously with the link being dead it wouldnt see that as unnatural but you may get a little bonus with the first instance imo .

Maybe so Riverwire but I was reading yesterday that authority sites or those than rank highly routinely use dead links when referring to other sites. So as to make it difficult for visitors to click out or to not give their competitors any PR link juice.

Google is aware of this practice so in some respects when it sees a dead link it may assume that the site owner made it a dead link for the reasons mentioned.

Which makes that dead link an even greater vote for the site being linked to than a normal live link would be. At least that is how the theory goes as to how Google sees dead links.

What I read is more of what I call SEO hearsay and nice sounding theory though than actual fact. I am hoping to find some more authoritative sources of information respecting whether Google does indeed view dead links this way or not.

It is an interesting topic , its a little like the "SEO hearsay" that some people believe that although the NoFollow attribute is suppose to turn google bots away google still gives credit for an authoritive nofollow link, even if it is again only a small amount of credit.

Ill keep an eye on this topic to see if anyone else has any opinions on it .

            have a good day
