Using Wordpress Blog to Get Links

Hey Everyone,

I currently have a few blogs set up hosted by wordpress (blog.wordpress.com) and have been submitting articles to them with links to my money sites. I also submit the same articles to article directorys and others. A few questions, its been a while and im not seeing any of the backlinks show up in google webmaster tools, or yahoo site explorer for the links on the blog. Anyone have any experence with this?

Also would I be better having the blog hosted on my own domain, not wordpress, and do the same thing? All though in that case all the links would come from my same ip that my money sites are hosted on. Any insights or thoughts on any of this would be great!

  • Why would Google give you credit for more than one link from the same domain? And it's very easy for them to see the linking scheme.

Make a link and move on. It's going to make very little difference to SEO a bunch of links from the same self created sites.

Just search for the URL of your WordPress.com pages and see if they are indexed. What is the pagerank of that URL. If it's zero or one your link isn't going to mean much.

it's fine to build a wordpress blog to get some quick links. but if you're blog doesn't have many links pointing to it, they won't provide much value for your money sites.

Since your writing content anyway, I would suggest engaging with some bloggers that already have blogs with backlinks and page rank. offer to do some guest posts for them. this will safe you a lot of time and provide you much more value.

then start a blog on your own site and deliver valuable content that will attract links.

Sounds easy, but it will take some work. Good Luck!!!!

I would do a search for Web 2.0 blog platforms on Google and start setting up blogs at various web properties. I wouldn't worry too much about the IP unless you crazy with self-owned web properties being used to create your own backlinks.

Just make the backlinks random. Don't use the same pattern of always linking the same way back to your money sites. Click here and there and even put in a fair smattering of outgoing one way links to others so that you don't raise flags by just promoting yourself.

I would also advise you to not use WordPress as a blogging platform. If they smell anything remotely close to self-promotion of the kind you are talking about they will close you down. I know because I asked them directly about this sort of thing.

Don't create junk blogs just to create a backlink. Create valuable and useful content and link back to yourself once in a while and you should be just fine whatever blogging platform you use.

remember, even though you are able to view a larger sample of your links with webmaster tools, it is still just a sample. if Google has indexed the page where your link is present, it knows about your link. whether or not its passing value is another conversation entirely.

The blogs I have on blogger are much more effective for
links for google. I have wordpress ones on domains and they
don't get nearly the juice my free bloggers do.

I'm actually thinking of switching them all.

Just curious Paul...on what basis do you say that? It is a common myth to believe that Google favors WordPress or not over other blogging platforms and I do not believe they favor blogger any more than anyone else either.

What may be happening is that they crawl blogger more often since they have a vested interest in detecting splogs there than anywhere else.

But I can almost guarantee that there is no inherent advantage on using blogger, WordPress.com, or an indepedently hosted WordPress install. Unless Google is somehow twisting their stated objectivity in favor of their own web properties like blogger...which is always possible I guess.

The process you're applying for link building is good. But you should not depend upon only one method but try to get links from various ways. Post your articles also in several article directories and link back your site. Do post comments in do follow blogs, post in forums, use squidoo lens and social bookmarking sites.

Thank you all for the replys again, I do in fact use many other methods of getting backlinks (articles, social bookmarking, forum profiles, sig links, etc) just curious about this wordpress one. I used blogger for a while, but in < 2 months of having one on blogger it was marked as spam and deleted. I haven't had any problems with my wordpress blogs.

IMO I tend to only care about links that show up in webmaster tools, though I know its open for discussion, because I feel that why would google want to hide links from me that only I have acsess too? They may "know" about the link but I feel that if they don't show it in webmaster tools its not being counted. Any thoughts on that?
