Hello Warriors,

I know many of you maybe know these tips about searching in Google, but it's always good to share these tips with others.

Everybody knows that Google is Way More than just a search box. It's "the best search engine in the world". Some people might agree, other might not... in All cases everybody agrees that Google Search Engine has made the web a lot more easier for internet users.

Most people visiting Google do it for regular search, they go to Google.com and enter a search criteria and start seeing results from different websites. Google offers the results based on complex algorithms that even SEO specialists don't know all of them.

In this article I will cover some nice tips Google offers for its visitors, but most visitors never heard of. These tips can save lots of time on you in the future and will improve your search skills to retrieve more accurate results.

1. Define

Google Define is a wonderful tool that most people miss to use. If you are not sure what a specific term means, then you are not supposed to search for it as a regular search, but you will have to use Google Define instead. To use Google Define, simply write in the search box "define: term" . Make sure to replace "term" with what word or sentence you want Google to define. Google uses some external and trusted websites and exclude the definition and suggests them in order of importance. In the following image I attempted to define "YouTube" and you can easily see the results are not web pages that you can click and visit, but are simply small lines of texts defining the term "YouTube".

2. Weather

Google Weather is another great and easy-to-use tool. If you're wondering about the Weather in a specific location anywhere in the world, then simply type in the search box "Weather City State". For example, if you want to know the Weather in Paris, you have to type "Weather Paris France". The following image shows the weather in Phoenix (Phoenix is in Arizona, USA). Therefore we need to type "Weather Phoenix Arizona".

3. Movie

So you're a fan of movies and need to know when are the Show Timings of a specific movie in the cinema, no problems, Google Movie helps you do that. By using Google Movie you can get all kind of details about a specific movie from its Show Timings, to reviews about this movie, to the trailer of the movie, and even to available photos. To use Google Movie type in the search box "movie: movie_name" where "movie_name" is the name of the movie you're searching for. In the following example shown below I searched for the new movie "Twilight" so I typed in the search box "movie: twilight".

4. Google Translate

Google Translate is one of my favorite tools ever. This tool allows you to translate words and paragraphs from and to almost any language. I tried this tool so long and I can say that it is pretty much accurate. To use this tool, go to Google Translate and you will have this tool in front of you. All you have to do is to fill a text to translate, choose the "Translate From" and "Translate To" languages and hit the Translate button.

5. Search by FileType

Did you know that you can search for specific file types? Yes Google allows you to do that too! What if you want to search for a song with an mp3 file type, or search for e-books with pdf format. Google is there to assist all the time. To use this option, type in the search box "filetype:extension keyword" and replace "extension" with the 3 letters extension for the file type you want, and the "keyword" with the keyword you're looking for. For instance, if you are looking for a math report of file type "doc", you would have to search for "fileype:doc math report".

There are still tons of tips on how to use Google Search box, but these five are my favorites.

I hope you enjoyed the tips. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me.

Best regards,
Wassim

I truly agree that Define is really useful... You know when someone asks you through Instant Messenger about something.... like "what happened with..." and you don't know what that thing is...

Google Define avoided me to look stupid in so many situations lol.

Operators can also be VERY powerful, there are LOTS.

    This just ONE example:

    KEYWORD "(add|suggest|recommend|submit) (Link|Site|URL|Website)" OR "(add|suggest|recommend|submit) (a|your|an|new) (Link|Site|URL|Website)"

Finds sites with KEYWORD and any combination of "add a link", for example if you're looking for a directories where you can submit a link.

Thanks for the tips - I always like to read and learn about how to make the best use of Google search features.

You can also use Google as a calculator. Just type 10+2 and hit enter - it puts the answer underneath the equation. Here's more about the calculator and other goodies:
