I don't seem to get google, yet

Perhaps this is because of the new google algorithm update, but this is ridiculous.

Sometime ago I found a search term with no competition whatsoever (well, now, there's 2 competitors, but I should still be able to rank), so I wrote an article, and as soon as it was accepted into articlesbase, it made it to page 3 without any backlinks.

"Great!" I figured, "So now all I need to do is gain some high quality backlinks that are sure to push this to the top without any problem!"

so I found some backlinks, a pr6 (not domain, the actual page itself), pr4, pr3, etc.

Also, a lot of low pr backlinks for good measure.

After the deed was done, a couple of days later, it jumped down to page 6. Then the next day page 8. Then page 10. Then it disappeared completely. It's been at the very least 5 days since it disappeared from the search term, but it is still in google's index.

I read somewhere that backlinks using blog comments will actually hurt your website, instead of benefit now and I didn't want to believe it, yet...

This strange behavior as a result of usual blog backlinking has got me worried.

For clarification, what I was trying to rank was an article on articlesbase.

Not my own website.

It's also worth noting that the article isn't ranking for any term what so ever and is getting no visitors at all.
