Why Does It Take So Long For Google To Find Multiple Pages?

I put multiple pages on my sites, hoping that the second and third pages would get picked up pretty quickly.

But they haven't despite me backlinking them.

I thought it would be about as quickly as the original page, or maybe a couple of days longer, but some have been a week now and still not picked up.

I don't really want to backlink them to death right from the off, I would rather do a couple of backlinks every day or so.

How long should it take for Google to pick up these second and third (etc) pages? Let alone get them up onto page one?

Should I just be patient?

It's not uncommon for Google to take 3 - 4 weeks to index additional pages on a site, especially if the main page has been indexed.

I have quite a few sites with only page 1 indexed.

I think the best thing you can do is ensure that you have a valid sitemap file submitted in GWT, continue slowly backlinking as you intend, and most important of all, be patient. Google will get there........ eventually!!!

I agree. Actually - to speed things up - you can backlink to your internal pages using sig links or basically anything.

Yup, as others said, not uncommon for Google to take a good 3-4-5 weeks to fully index sites. Lately whenever I've started new sites, it's taken about a week for the homepage and usually the ABOUT page to start showing. Then it stays like that from anywhere from a few days to a few weeks until everything starts showing up and I start seeing some decent traffic.

Continue your promotional and backlinking efforts, in moderation. It will all be picked up by Google and other SE's in due time.

  SEO requires patience - something most of us don't have. I need a lot more.
  
  I have found that social bookmarking and RSS feeds gets Google visiting my sites real quick. But it sometimes still takes a while for them actually index my site and show me that they indexed it.

  Exactly, you can over come this by having multiple projects at once it you are not patience. So start on something else.

  Yes, backlinking is absolutely essential. We all want our sites to be indexed or ranked highly in the Search Engine because we want traffic, right? Well, one way I have found that brings in a surge of traffic is to social bookmark your pages. I once did that with one of my sites using stumbleupon and the next day I found the amount of traffic surged 400%. Of course, this may not be sustained traffic, but it's a good start.
  
  To get sustained traffic, you need a combination of backlinks (external and internal) and good content.

Be patient google has alot of ground to cover. There are millions of blogs and billions of pages that not just need to be indexed but ranked as well.
