Using PLR for backlinking - Your Views

Warriors,

I do almost all of my backlinking using Unique handwritten content with the occassional spun article.

I was thinking about a new strategy to reduce my workload (I have a network of 10+ websites now)
Let me know what you think:

1) Take PLR content and use it to build blogs and pages on free content hosts/web 2.0 sites such as blogger and squidoo.com

2) Use "internal linking" to get indexed and give the blogs/pages more authority.

(the internal linking I refer to is about using the web 2.0 sites own social features... such as commenting on other squidoos to get your author page some high PR and eventually get lenses indexed)

I'm all set to go for it.. the only thing holding me back is the duplicate content thing(using the PLR)
I know people keep referring to it as a myth.. its just that in my own experience I've seen that Google only ranks one or two instances of an article and deranks all other duplicate articles.
My thinking was.. that by using PLR and then doing "internal linking" I could get these pages/blogs indexed and make them count as quality backlinks.

I actually was considering the same idea... but to avoid duplicate content i still read over the articles an maybe change a few words, add in a couple words that i would want to rank for also.

This way there is enough changes to still make it seem unique content to Google, and it does save time from sitting an writing and entire article.

My friend - I was thinking this exact thing just moments ago, and came here to see if I could search and find any posts discussing this very subject.... and here you are, on the first page :-)

I haven't done this before, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work. However, for maximum effectiveness (and to lessen the chances of being associated with spammy tactics, and thus having your pages/backlinks pulled not only by Google but by the web 2.0 sites themselves), I would seriously consider rewriting the PLR at least to some reasonable degree.

By rewrite, I don't mean bust your backside too much. Perhaps keep the same overall article structure, but just rewrite them on a sentence-to-sentence basis as effectively but swiftly as you can, then perhaps find parts where you can swap sentences about to make an article which reads well but is mixed slightly from the original in terms of the overall structure. If that makes sense?

Obviously, the more unique the articles the better, but you're still expending effort getting the PR of your properties built up and so it's in your interests to ensure that they continue to provide a good source of high PR / quality backlinks for the foreseeable future. In order to do that you'll want to take some measures to make your properties content at least looks like it hasn't just been directly ripped from PLR articles; exact duplicates of which can be found in the hundreds, plastered all over the 'net.

EDIT: But yes, this is definitely something I'm going to be experimenting with myself, so I will say "go for it!" to yourself also.

The suggestions of rewriting are good. I have thought of that.. I was leaning more on changing the heading and first paragraph. That way at least the descriptions of these pages in the Google index would be different.

It would still reduce the number of pages i could actually put out there.. but I guess having fewer articles is better than having many which are totally duplicate.

The problem with this is that if you just start the blogs, they will have a pr0 for some time. Those links wont help you much, if at all. Has anyone considered creating a plr product and website for it, then adding your link somewhere in the site. That way anyone who uses the plr site will link to you. Just a thought..
