How to do keyword research for squidoo? How can I get my squidoo to rank high in Google for a certain keyword term? Do competitors actually matter I mean since squidoo basically always ranks high in google??

I'm noticing a definite shift in Google, that doesn't look good for Squidoo lenses.

I monitor quite a few lenses positions in relation to mine, and they have all slid down the SERP's a bit.

I think Squidoo is loosing its pull but it might just be a coincidence, though it doesn't look it to me. I noticed a shift in the types of results that were ranking around new year, and I think Squidoo took the brunt.

First you need to target a keyword that gets decent traffic and has few competition.
In my case i usually use the google keyword tool and find keywords that have less than 100,000 competitions. The lower the better but remember you want high searched terms.

Now once you find a keyword type it in the google search box and see if there are places you can potentially leave your content. Look for places like article directories, squidoo, lenses, hubpages anywhere you're capable of leaving a footprint.

If you find a squidoo page during your search you're in luck. Go to that page, read the content, and take some notes.

Create a lens, make sure you have original content on your lens. Add as many modules as necessary and once you're done you need to to the following:
    Ping your lens
    bookmark the link
    submit to rss feeds
Rinse and repeat until you get enough backlinks to your lens. It will rank high in search engines.

Keep in mind this is a simplified method but it is really easy to do.

    Hope this helps,

    Zoul

Hi thank you for your comment. Though I have a little question...you say take some notes. I dont really get what you mean by that. What notes?

Anyway if I get it right you're basically saying that if I come across a lens that is ranking in google, I also have a good chance of ranking for the same keyword???

Ping your lens with Blog and Ping Tool - Use Pingler.com to Drive Traffic your Blogs and Websites
Bookmark your lens with Social bookmarking service. Fast tagging and posting to all major social websites - SocialMarker.com
And then submit RSS feeds to Feedage and Feedest

Then write ezine articles based around the keyword and point them towards your lens with the keyword.

Once ezine articles are published submit to other directories.

    You should have no problems.

Ah, I see you actually were referring to getting a page to rank. Not whether Squidoo ranks.

Basically its the same methods from traffic generation used as any other website.

Articles distributed across the main 3 Ezinearticles, Goarticles and Articlebase.

Blog commenting and use your forum signature as a hyper link as that has a great effect.

Also make sure any pics you upload contain your main keyword in their title
Example: 0001.jpg should be changed to yourkeyword.jpg

    Hope this helps,
    Colin

Bear in mind that G only lists a max of 2 pages from squidoo.com in the SERP for the same keyword - so if there are already two Squidoo lenses ranking well for that term, you will have to bump one of them in order to appear AT ALL for it. No starting on page 10 and working your way up, like with a page on an independent site.

So check those two lenses and any others for your term, to see if you can reasonably hope to get past them. PR 1 and 2? Few backlinks? Good chance. PR4 and 5? Not so good. Pick a different keyword.
