Ive been working on my new site lately and was pleased to see it ranking on very highly (like 1st or 2nd) for a couple key word phrases in quotes when searching in google.

Then I asked my friend who lives same city as me and also search on my sisters computer and my site isnt anywhere to be found. Whats going on?

It could be a number of things, Personalised Searches ( remember thats now in place by google ) Different datacenters , just because your in the same city it doesnt mean that you are seeing the same thing.

If you havent heard of what googles doing with personalised searches then i would recommend reading it.

google personalized results based on the searches done from each computer.

you need to use a third party application to get true google results now.

Oh damn so isnt that terrible for us IMers? So if we get #1 it may not be #1 for everyone? I guess nothing much would change in out approach though keep building content/backlinks etc..

Thanks for that, my site went from page 1 to page 4 LOL.

This sucks though, I mean eventually everyone who searches google, their results will be tainted with personal results, so there will be no use searching in "general/unpersonal style".

Thats the general idea, basically googles "new vision" of natural results is to make the big sites bigger, the sites that go viral bigger and leave the small guys out to rot. So if you want to be found you have to try and get the word out. SEO's all over are a concerned about it but its just the next hurdle that everyone has to get past, Google changes the goal posts every now and then , we just got to learn how to score when they do.

They actually use cookies to gather the personalised results now so every time someone clears their cookies they will see the natural results again, i think the cookie expires every 15 or 30 days too i cant remember the exact number of days

Just goes to show the world of the social site is the way to go, Promotions via facebook marketing , digg any social site you can think of etc will be big in months to come , or should i say bigger

the cookies reply seems better than what mine will be....but I made my first sniper site the other week and had a similar problem. Two computers different result, it turned out I was signed into my gmail account on one computer. When I signed out the result changed from 1st place to 9th lol.

&pws=0 seems to be ignored. If I place it into my FF browser on my PC I get one result, then when I place it at the end of my iPhone search, I get a different result.
