ADWORDS - How The Heck Is It Possible??

Well, I've been pursuing SEO for organic listings, but while that takes time, I'd like to at least use Adwords for quick testing of products to see how they convert.

I picked the weight loss niche, since there is always a demand, and purchasing is a largely emotional decision. I use to promote a Mafia Wars product, but it didn't convert enough to make it worth while (1/300 conversion ratio).

I know the weight loss niche is saturated.....but that isn't really my problem.

It's my quality score. I simply can't even get it to 7/10. Freakin' pathetic.

I set up 1 keyword per Adgroup, so all of my Ads have the keyword twice in them.

I'm using a WP landing page. I've made a landing page for each keyword. They even have their own keywords. I'm using the All-In-One SEO plugin also.

However, my keywords get rated at 4/10

Seriously, WHY?

I would REALLY appreciate some help in this.....I've become crazily frustrated with Adwords. Quality score almost seems like a crapshoot. I know taking action is how to succeed in IM, but nothing works when I do.

Here's my landing page for the keyword "Quick Weight Loss" My 'Top Secret' System For Quick Weight Loss | Best Weight Loss Supplements

I know the domain itself isn't the keyword....but if I need a domain for every single keyword just to get a decent QS, then how does anyone find success with Adwords?

I'm freaking determined to slay the Adwords beast. I know the rewards will be great, but I've been stuck at this hurdle for ages.

Thanks for ANY help!

Best Regards,
Sean

Just by looking at it, your keyword isn't in your title or description...

Change your title to a H1 opposed to H2

also sort out your URL's... p=12 isn't helping, make them the post names

I would get rid of, categories, blogroll, meta and archives down the side to.

    see how that works.

      Thanks for the help.

How do I change the h2 to h1 in wordpress? I looked in several of the templates, and changed it to h1 in the template but it isn't reflecting the change.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it! It was in a different template. "singlepost.php" for anyone who might have the same question.

      I completely removed the sidebar.

Also, do you know how to change the post number to a keyword? Instead of p=12 or whatever.

Thanks again for everyones help so far!

    Hi Sean,

Quick weight loss is not one of your keywords - quick weight loss diets is.

Your site isnt an PPC landing page, it's a blog. It took me a few seconds to actually find what you are selling.

You need a big call to action, above the fold and get rid of all the menus down the right hand side.

Try adding a the following pages - site map, contact, privacy, terms.

Run your URL through the G keyword tool to see what it thinks you're site is about and you might get some more keyword ideas.

Your QS might improve as your CTR improves so concentrate on testing ad copy to keep your CTR high.

Try BING as well, Google is getting to be a major pain in the ass.

    Nick

I would agree with Nick that isn't your keyword but neither is quick weight loss diets. Judging from your page's title and site name, I say it's quick weight loss supplements. Curiously, your landing page doesn't mention supplements.

To change 'post number' go to the permalinks options under settings in wp admin and change to custom structure. something like this

    /%postname%/

Hey I also suggest to check the landing page with semantic extractor. Search engine bots use similar thing to understand the page. I suggest use the main keyword in headline. Use h1, h2 and h3 tags in the page with keyword phrases containing related (LSI) keywords.

    Cheers

i have an ebook website, which has all the contact, privacy and disclaimer on it. the site isnt about miracle cures or get rich quick schemes and i am still getting a low quality score for the keywords from the google keyword tool.

what else could be the problem?

my last move would be to contact google rep, I just want to test all the possible things before I do that

    Some good advice.

I think one of your biggest problems from a quality score perspective is you need to add a privacy policy, about us, contact us, sitemap, terms of service

And as others have mentioned the structure of your blog is a bit awkward ..it's like it's stuck between a blog and a sales page.

Some pros: awesome that you took initiative with the one keyword per adgroup and multiple ads per group with keyword in ad. Even better that you took it upon yourself to target one landing pgae per keyword BUT don't drop the ball with onpage seo...keywords need to go in typical on page seo locations. Fix the structure of your landing page.

Hey well first of all , i can see your affililate link and thats bad. Google doesn't like affiliate marketers. 2ndly someone above mentioned its a blog. You need your landing page to be hosted by YOU. Check out 1and1.com they have the best deals i've seen. Actually if i were you i'd check out speedppc.com . I love their product but most importantly if you watch the videos they will give you some ideas about how to dominate google Search. Oh also you might like the fact that the Google's CN Content Network has ridiculously inexpensive clicks. No one uses the CN so much less competition and also MUCH more traffic...sorta.
    lol Hope this helps

try targeting the keyword fat loss 4 idiots. youll get less traffic but since you're essentially doing a review about the product. when people type in that product name they are looking for reviews or results. your conversion ratio should raise immediately as it's targeting the product name.

Consumers have already been sold the fat loss 4 idiots but now they just want proof that it works and your blog/site does a pretty good job of that.

It's hosted by me.....I own that domain.

I'm actually waiting to get some image ads for the content network at the moment, because apparently they're cheaper to advertise with for some reason I don't understand.

I've tried the content network before, but I always found the the CPM bids were high (above $8). I was using the strategy of managing placements on the websites that ranked high for popular keywords, and trying to get a high CTR so the end CPC would be just pennies. I spent a long time trying to do this, but failed. What really annoys me is the lack of a 'minimum' bid, or the "likelyhood your ad will appear" that Adwords apparently used to have.

Does that method even work anymore? The eBooks I have explaining it all show the old Adwords interface.....and I never read new threads about it.

And as far as the "raise the bid to get a higher CTR".......I don't have the money to pay for $1.25/click or more. Doing that just to get a decent CTR is purely stupid. That's what I hate most about Adwords.

Thanks for all of the input so far, I have changed most of the things mentioned in this thread, and have noticed increases in my QS. 4/10 is now 5/10, and the 5/10 is now 6/10

I agree it's stupid, especially since you can't afford it. However, it's not Google's fault.

Raising the bid will give you better ranking which will increase your CTR relative to your old CTR. It does not however affect your QS. So you end up paying more. What affects your QS is better ads getting better CTR at your position compared to the historical average.

Progress lol. What is the CTR of your landing page to the product? Make that photo a clickable lick to your aff product or change it for a banner from the product itself.

As per this video by Google Adwords Rep, your CTR is the most vital part of your QS (2:38 timeline). Have a look:

Secondly, it comes the 'Relevance' and third your 'Landing Page'.

So, I would suggest that you try to improve your CTR (by bidding higher initially and lowering it down later-on), to improve your QS along with all the suggestions given above.

Raising the bid is not a recommended way but It has worked for me. Like I start with high bid and then lower it after few hours if CTR is good for my keywords. I have achieved good QS using this technique that helped me in long run by lowering my avg CPC.

I've been messing around with Adwords off and on since June 2009. I'd say I'm extremely familiar with how to set-up campaigns and such, and how to test. My issue seems to be in keyword selection and getting good quality scores.

      I spent a fair amount on a 10/10 keyword that I had for a particular keyword.......since it isn't profitable, I'll share it.

It was "mafia wars cheats". I was stoked when I got 10/10 for it, and I would get hundreds of clicks per day for $0.19 each. However, I wasn't making sales......not even 1 after over 500 clicks. The more I thought about it, "mafia wars cheats" isn't a buying keyword.

People are looking for actual cheat codes, likely free cheat codes. I am selling a strategy guide.......so I think that's where my problem lies.

However, I just can't seem to pick the buying keywords. The major ones are always high in competition, like "**Product Name** Review". Probably one of the best buying keywords out there for any product, but extremely high in competition, in fact usually it has the most competition, even higher than just the product name itself. And that's where getting a good QS comes into play so you don't have to pay $1.50 per click or more.
