Here's How to Lose the Hard Earned #1 Position!

Hey Guys,

With a lot of hard work and withstanding many nerve wrecking Google dances, I achieved the precious #1 position for a term that has a search count of 74,000/month (exact count nor broad or phrase).

This is a Christmas gift item thing and after the shopping season was over, business went down dramatically. So I thought I would monetize it with CPA in addition to Amazon and placed a pop-up (on exit) to earn a few extra dollars.

I did this y'day (Saturday) morning. This morning, (Sunday) it was gone. Not just from position 1, but vanished entirely. It's not like it went down in rankings, in which case I could have put a couple of posts and built a couple of links and brought it up again.

I wonder if this is a penalty from Google or just a co-incidence. Anybody out there having websites ranking on high positions that have pop-ups with no problems? Or with similar experiences?

How should I revive it? I guess the same old procedure - fresh content and fresh links.

Thanks and hope you somebody else out there will learn a lesson from my mistake!
Chucky

I have had issues like this in the past but it's nearly impossible to say with 100% certainty what the cause is. One thing is obvious though, this was done to your site purposely, whether you want to call it a sandbox, penalty ect isn't really important.

I have a site that is on the 30th page right now, the only thing i did was build links and add one non-unique post to the blog.

  • If you change a page, a page whose content was indexed by Google and got a certain place according to it´s content, than this page with this content does not longer exist and the new content must be re-evalued. In my experience this will always be negative, at least for quite a while.

Hey thanks for the input guys!

What I did was install a WP plugin that produced a pop-up at exit. I don't know if that changes any code as such. I didn't change any content, that's for sure. In fact, for a human being to get the pop-up, he/she has to move the cursor upwards to close the window. I wonder if a bot can detect this? Any ideas guys?

      Thanks again!

    I would remove the pop-up.
Add a post and ad a link or two.
You have taken it back to its former state and then added to it.
    No guarantees.
