Keywords in the domain are important but not crucial.
You can use various SEO techniques and I think that you can beat your competition. Or you can use the same words in the domain only by Invert.

It makes the process a bit tougher, but you can outrank any site with enough time and effort.

Go after high PR backlinks through profiles. That will help you the fastest.

Actually I gave great advice. High pr backlinks through profiles are very powerful and they can be outsourced in bulk. That's the strategy I use to rank high for keywords.

That and always trying to secure the EMD.

No one can deny the importance of keyword in domain name but if you does not have your keyword in domain then you can utilize other SEO measures like better content, link building, social media and different other things. in this way you can beat any type of keyword rich domain name.

Dude don't worry about it. Just build links. I beat a ton of sites with my keywords in their domain name. My site isn't even related in most cases and I have no problem even if they have the exact keyword.

  Add the keyword in the url after the domain name. According to the google webmaster video I watched the position of the keyword in the url was really far down the list of things that google considered that it almost did not matter at all.
  
  So:
  
  keyword.com keywords use your keywords to GO direct to web pages and files.
  
  is not really much better than
  
  www.yourdomain.com/keyword
  
  My understanding is that this better than using the keyword phrase out of order in the domain name, especially for the long tailed keywords.

  Ultimately it is going to come down to building backlinks. Obviously making sure your keyword is in your title and description are crucial as well.

  Like others mention, work on the backlinks.
  
  But, if you are already getting traffic to the site, maybe you can consider on factors that improves the conversion rate. Is this a adsense site that you are referring to?
  
  For all you know, with the same traffic, improving the conversion rate is like an instant pay increment.
