This blew me away a minute ago....

I heard that JD Salinger died, so I did a search for: The Catcher in the Rye
just to familiarize myself with the book again.

Right in the middle of the page (about #6 slot) on the first page of Google was a scrolling window with real time Twitter posts. First time I have ever seen this on Google.

So I hopped over to Twitter and posted a tweet with the keyword Catcher in the Rye in it wondering if my tweet appear shortly...and sure enough, a few seconds later it was there!

Has anyone else seen this on Google's first page? Maybe it is only for the hot trending keywords, but I thought it was pretty cool.

Yea, you are right. But, for a hot keyword, the tweets don't last at the top long. After 7 or 8 minutes, you had to scroll a bit to see mine. Might be good ammo to convince offline clients to let you create Twitter accounts for them.

        About tweet spam:
they will be implementing some 'ranking' to tweets, for example:
        - tweets from popular twitter accounts may get more rank than unpopular ones,
        - tweets that get retweeted may get more rank than if not etc. etc.

That mean: soon not all tweets will show up in the results, but only those that are 'ranked' well.

Is it worth to put work into this?

Since they are 'real time' results it will not be worth much to focus on that for marketing, because they will be on the SERP page for a very short time only. Rather put your time into real SEO.

          That is very interesting.

So what would be the factors of ranking well? The number of followers you have? The amount of replies to tweets? The amount of retweets you have?

This is something I've watched happen for a couple
of weeks. I tried it my self with a female star who
            died recently.

            It also worked fairly fast.

This is there since quite a few days and whatever you search for, like a great personality will show the live tweets (even those tweeted a minute ago) on the first results page and it scrolls up and down. This is one of the step they have taken to show that Google is trying to go faster in indexing.

They have been doing this for months now. Go to Google Trends and search for any keyword and most of them will have live tweets updates. It depends on how trendy the topic is.

This quick indexing is definitely going to be a great help IF you are trying to capitalize on a current Google trend, because these things don't last very long and the faster you show up on Google, the better your results will be.

fast? google indexes the tweet as you post it... google and major search engines have agreement with twitter.. google pays to index those tweets... it is real time.. but it does not influence you embedded links.. nofollow..
