How do I make a website like this one?

Hi everyone. I really like this website and I'd really like to make a similar website. Just wondering how you SEO and basically set up a website like this for success?

The site is: TechCrunch
I guess it is the leader of a group of sites. The one I'm even more interested in is: http://www.crunchgear.com/

They have decent rankings for many many good keywords and I'm sure they make some decent amount of cash with a website like that. I think I'm capable of doing it...just wouldn't know about SEO and stuff for a huge website like that.

What do you guys think?

    There is nothing ground breaking or off-the-wall about these sites. When you break them down they even ignore many simple SEO techniques.

    The problem you're going to run into with trying to create a site like this is they are a legit news outlet and an authority in the the tech field.

    Or in other words... they are a real web site providing real content with tens of thousands of loyal readers. Almost all tech-nerds know about TechCrunch.

    How to make a site like it... wordpress, 3 column theme, a staff of writers, advertising and branding.

    Sites like TechCrunch aren't surviving off of keywords and the other silly stuff we chat about around here. They are a well known brand.

    Good luck thats all Im saying....lol

    You can start off with setting up a WordPress theme, either hiring someone to develop some kind of magazine theme or you can purchase Artisteer and design your own themes. Unless you have sound knowledge of designing, developing and marketing sites, its going to be quite costly....but its not impossible....

      Developing a site like that should be pretty easy and cheap. Except for the fact that you should buy a Wordpress theme, the rest is just customization that you can do by yourself, no need to hire a fancy Designer. In fact, this ease of use is what made wordpress so famous.

    Making a site that looks like it is simple. But that's got nothing to do with the success of the site.

    It is the tech authority on the internet. You can't expect to emulate that or reach the same level overnight or even in 5 years. They get their hands on news and gear before its even released, ie they have industry contacts and full time expert writers and other staff to contribute to the site and provide solid, unique, high quality and most importantly, sought after content.

    As you can see here, their team is quite substantial
