Just this morning I saw a little announcement at the bottom of my Chrome homepage telling me extensions are now available for Chrome. I started sticky beaking and found an excellent SEO extension that gives you most of the important stats that you need at a glance.

You get a little icon at the top right of the screen, and if you click on it whilst on any webpage you get this:

There is also a keyword research tool. At the moment it's in alpha stage so it just suggests keywords only, but the next version will plug directly into the Adwords Keyword tool and provide traffic, competition and CPC data. Sweet!

At the moment it looks like this:

It will also highlight no follow links on any page with a red dotted outline.

So, if you want to give it a whirl you can grab this extension here: https://chrome.google.com/extensions...aoclj?hl=en-US

I can't really say because I don't use the Firefox tool. Even with it's bugs I've been hooked on Chrome since it came out because it's so darn smooth and quick. Most of the bugs are gone now so I'm pretty happy with it as a browser. Now it has these extensions I'm even more stoked.

I've found a stack of other really awesome extensions since my opening post so I'm in web geek heaven atm.

Hi, I'm the author of Chrome SEO. Thanks for writing about us.

It's been amazing over the last week, the response to our tool has been so positive, over the weekend we were the 8th most downloaded Chrome Extension.

We're really listening to the community for feedback so please let us know if you have feature requests. The reason we created the tool was to meet the communities needs, we realize the current SEO tools are great but we really feel we can improve upon them. We want to provide a free tool that does more and meets the needs of more people. That's why we're adding keyword research, ppc management, rank tracking, competitive analysis.

I'll be releasing a new version very soon so please let me know what your looking for and I'll see if we have time to implement it for this version. If not I'll add it to the giant list of ideas

Awesome stuff! Ever since firefox has been acting up on me I went over to chrome. But when ever I needed to do some seo stuff it was always done in firefox because of the two plugins I had. This is a great feature thanks for the link.

I love Chrome as I find it more stable and much faster than IE or Firefox. I've been using a couple of the SEO extensions for a couple weeks now and find them both buggy - but its early in development and am confident they'll get better.

I don't really know for sure either way. I've been a bit iffy with a few different things of Google's, but hey, whaddaya gonna do? It's the same thing with Microsoft and just about everyone else as well. Like the article said, probably only OSS is going to keep you completely clean, so in the end you just have to make a judgement call.

Otherwise you probably have to go the whole hog and install Linux and use no proprietary applications at all. You'll be safe and clean then, but you'll also have limits to the functionality you can access. As an example I also use Adobe products and those bastiches are constantly trying to phone home. But, it's great software so I use it anyway.

That particular topic though looks like it is actually just talking about the autocomplete function in the Chrome toolbar. The autocomplete for URL's is actually one of the features I personally enjoy the most about Chrome. You can type in one letter and it will probably give you your favorite url that starts with that letter. Does this mean Google probably know my browsing history? Yes. Did they probably know it anyway, if I was using Chrome or not? Yeah, I think so.

That said, Chrome also has an "Incognito" tab version that you can use at any time. This "incognito" mode prevents any information being captured at all so if you don't want any data going out you can just use that mode. This is actually a feature I've only seen natively in Chrome so there's another upside to balance the downside.

That's my thoughts on the question anyhoo!

I use a number of different browsers for developing websites. I typically stuck with firefox and just didn't like chrome much. The good thing about chrome is that if one tab freezes, it won't take all the tabs with it. Which is really good for a multi tasker like me with usually no less than 10 tabs open at once.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google Chrome "spies" on you. I mean Gmail does, so does every website with their advertising. It is how they "target" you for ads. Even their Google Voice does. The other day I started wondering if they even were listening through my mic as I was having a verbal conversation with a friend across the table talking about a subject and when my gmail next refreshed it had an ad about what I was talking about. The subject at hand was not in any of my emails in that account, or any of my accounts. I had clicked on an ad on facebook a week or two before that and not before or since, and the ad just happened to pop up then. It was an ad for either NZ or Australia. Just the timing made me wonder.

What is OSS? I know OSX and then the Nix platforms. I miss running Linux, I liked the security. Switched to Windows as all the IM tools I found were for Windows.

    OSS = open source software

I think it's most likely that software developers who have nothing financial to gain are about the only ones who aren't peeking over your shoulder in some way. I personally really like open source software and I use a lot of it. If I could access the same functionality I can through proprietary apps then I would probably use all OSS, not just because it's free but because it often has a huge mastermind of developers behind it branching it off in different directions.

But, money pays for time and proprietary apps can hence often provide functionality that unpaid developers are hard pressed to keep up with. So I take the good with the bad and balance OSS and proprietary software to get the kind of performance I need.

I agree with most of what you said, Kezz. That article wasn't the best example, it was just the first one I found in trying to reference something as an example. I've seen others that indicate the activity is more nefarious than just collecting data that can be used to target advertising.

I don't have anything to hide, I'd be a pretty boring subject to spy on, I've just never liked the idea of being spied on. I'll probably give it a try sooner or later.

I finally started to use Chrome because Firefox was beginning to lock up each time I tried to use the google external keyword tool.

Chrome does seem to run smoother. It is great to know that more extensions are available. I will probably start using Chrome more often.

      Thanks for the heads up.

Wow, I can't believe it was worth your time registering just to post that

I've posted this in various places online, but I'll repeat it again :
Yes there was a problem with the original extension, I paid a software company to develop the original code for me, as I was just testing the market. I later found out they had stolen the extension from Tudor Mateescu the author of Seomator. I quickly rewrote the extension with my own code and completely changed the interface, I then emailed Tudor to clear things up and provided him with the details of what had happened. He asked for further proof and I provided him with further details. Everything is now fine between us and we've wished each other best of luck, so presuming your not Tudor because we're on good grounds, I have no idea why your trawling the web spreading this misinformation.

Was just wondering, are you still needing to revert to Firefox now that your using Chrome SEO? If so what features do you need. I realize we're missing a few features from the Firefox SEO extensions but I'm currently working on implementing them.

      Glad you like it

No I meant previously. Can't comment yet whether I'll ditch Firefox..but I'm loving the extension.

btw... ihatecheaters has put a comment on my blog as well. If this issue is sorted - what gain is there for this guy?

Hey Alex, I haven't experienced any direct bugs in the Chrome user interface in ages.

However in saying that behind the scenes I've found 3 bugs and 1 security issue since I've been developing with it. So fro ma developers point of view there's bugs, but most users should be fine. It's come a long way over the past few months.

The fact when chrome was released, you were able to exploit it to download files in the background, without the user knowing, tells me that chrome has a pretty low security level. I've found there to be a load of issues, I had some issues with certain webpages/webscripts, it kept on hogging up loads of CPU useage, even when idle etc.

I can run seoquake without it freezing my browser every minute, and they have other great extensions such as seo chrome, session manager, firebug, even have imacro, though not as good as the firefox one.

    I definitely recommend to anyone.
