Necessity of social bookmarking backlinks?

Hey,

I have started promoting my new eCommerce site by building backlinks that I got off a WSO. The backlinks are all to forums and I am just registering and putting my anchor text either in m profile or sig file.

After I complete a backlink, how necessary is it to social bookmark it? I ask because backlinking is time consuming enough, and bookmarking it almost doubles the time necessary for each link.

I understand that bookmarking will help google to see those links quicker and give my site credit for having them.

So, how important is it to bookmark?

And, how many sites should I be bookmarking on?

Though social bookmarking is good methos to create backlinks and drive traffic to your website, these are temporary backlinks. You need to create some quality and permanent backlinks!!

      Hi,

Social bookmarking is a process that is helpful for the ranking of keywords and the website and it gives faster results.

As far as backlinks are concerns than through all the bookmarking sites you will get relevant and high PR backlinks that is worth for your site to get more traffic and to rank on the top of SERPS.

That is why social bookmarking is very essential for getting traffic and to get ranking of keywords.

Else, if you want to know more about any other process than please PM me.

      Thanks!

I would socially bookmark them. But you may want to use one of the techniques I use and create an online rss feed all of the back links and simply bookmark the rss feed url itself.

This gets the links indexed and takes a lot less time that submitting each one

Hi, how do you create an online rss feed of all the back links? I'm not sure if I know what you mean, if you wouldn't mind explaining it to me please. It sounds like an efficient way but I'm not sure how I would go about it (if I understand it properly to begin with).

      Thanks

        Hi Pup,

        Here is what to do:

        1) goto rss.icerocket.com and create a new account
        2) login to the account and click 'create a new channel' and add keywords as title and description contains main keywords
        3) click into the channel and click 'add new item' to add you profile url to the channes as an item.
        4) add all your profile urls as items (try and rotate you titles aka keywords between the titles so that they are not all the same).
        5) publish the channel and get your published RSS feed url.
        6) submit this to the rss directories ie.. feedage / icerocket
        7) take the published RSS url and socially bookmark it in digg/ propeller / folkd etc.

        hope this helps

Thanks for the info Steve, I never would have thought of doing that or how to do it (which is why I come here to learn). I will implement this system today.

    Hi guys,
I have a question about this whole process. Sorry if it's really basic but I don't know much about social bookmarking.
After making a backlink in a profile, or forum sig/post, how exactly do you social bookmark that type of backlink?
Would you literally just submit that backlink url even though there is no real content in it?

I haven't done the forum profile thing yet, but what you do at digg or stumble is bookmark the page on your website. Then you open the digg/stumble page that shows the image from your website, clip the URL from it and carry that URL to the other social bookmarking places. Some won't accept dig/stumble addresses but most will. Social bookmark the digg/stumble page at several SB sites then ping the URLs from the bookmarks.

It is time consuming, but it pays off.

when you said "bookmark the page on your website" did you mean "bookmark the page OF your website" (meaning bookmark your sales page on digg etc.?
This is a little confusing to a newbie, let me see if i have this right, feel free to correct me if i don't Goatboy. (i feel funny calling you goatboy )

main site/squeezepage->linked on digg for example->the digg link linked on stumbleupon->the stumble link linked on Propeller etc. and then ping each sb site link?

or are you simply saying to backlink your main site on all of these sites?

example: i posted an article on articleblast and then pinged the article url and got a few more hits. should i post the article url on sb sites and then ping the sb sites post url as well?

another post said to post on forums to get backlinks, then to post each forum post to sb sites and to ping each forum post. do i have this right? thanks.

Okay, here is what I do. I've been at it for a couple of months now and it seems to work as well as anything else I've tried. I've gotten as many backlinks from bookmarking as I have from articles and blog commenting, but remember that you do need to do more than kind of links.

I go to my site and I clip the URL that I want to promote. Call that URL#1. Then I go to Digg and I submit URL#1. Once Digg has given me a new link, I open it and clip the URL. We'll call that URL#2. Now I go to delicious, kaboodle, spotback etc and I bookmark URL#2, the one that I got from Digg.

Next I go to Stumble and I submit URL#1 again, open the new link and clip the new Stumble URL, which we'll call URL#3. I take URL#3 and I bookmark it at wong, folkd, propeller, etc.

I try to mix up the secondary bookmarks so I don't use the same ones over and over again. I also want at least 3, and preferably more, secondary bookmarks.

Now I ping only the secondary bookmarks.

This works much like the nest of an ant lion. When googlebot touches anywhere around the edge, it slides into the center and is directed to your site.

Thank you so very much Goatboy. that is EXACTLY the type of explanation i needed. I was stopping at the first round thinking i was all done. I hate being new at stuff i will be so glad when this is all second nature to me.

it reminded me of when i was new at being a 411 operator and the old hands would shout all this jargon at us newbies and i had to stop them and say
"you are using insider industry jargon to new people who have no idea what you're talking about. stop, slow down and try to remember what it was like when you were new and didn't know what you know now"

so thanks again for explaining it in a way i could get it.

I've tried a few experiments with bookmarking links and haven't noticed much difference SERP wise. I would rather spend the time building more links via forums and blogs than waste my time with bookmarks.

I would highly recommend you bookmark them, in fact I like to take it a step further by pinging, bookmarking, and blog commenting to each of the profile link pages. You have no idea how much power this gives the page and all the outgoing links.

I can do a couple hundred of these profile links and outrank some aged competitive sites because my links carry a lot of weight. And if you really want to secure that top spot, then do all the other stuff your competition is doing anyways (articles, directories, bookmarks, web 2.0, etc).

You mentioned time as an issue, and it really is. I don't do any of the labor work when it comes to SEO. If I did, I would never finish. You should get some tools to move the processes along and outsource the labor work as much as possible. In today's world, you can do it for pennies on the dollar.

    lifebite,

What I believe he is explaining is put your backlink on either stumbleupon or digg, then take the url of your backlink page on stumbleupon/ digg and bookmark that. Then ping the resulting social bookmark link.

So.. main site->backlink->stumbleupon/digg->other social bookmarking sites->ping those sites.

Hence the "it takes a lot of time." I think I got this one right.

Scott, any advice on how to speed this up? What tools do you use or do you outsource it and let them do the labor?

I am trying to rank for 3 keywords for one site. Two of the keywords have a moderate range of competition and I have been cleared to rank for them. The main keyword is a single word with 2 million plus for exact search. The #1 site on google has a little less than 1,000 backlinks and a PR of 4. Do you think it is possible to outrank this by following the method you described? I am a little confused on your method, but is it essentially the same as explained by Goatboy?

Social bookmarking will help you get a lot of traffic so at least consider the top 10 or 5 bookmarking websites.
