Hi guys

Just thought I would post this in case any of you found it usefull. I origionally found this out looking into discrepency's i found on mnf and googles keyword tool. I would find results that made no sense, broad match less than exact match etc.

I've found that a lot of the time when it says something like 600000 results i will change my search settings to show 100 websites and loads of times there will only be say 4 pages, after that it will say results have been ommitted because they are very similar or the same would you like to repeat search with omitted results included? Usually when i click it to include the results it makes no difference to the results and i just get the same old message.

These omitted results, i take it i wouldn't have to worry about competing for them right?

Where do they come from? Why exactly are they omitted?

A lot of times one website will have many pages that are related to the search term you have entered. Sometimes there will be a clickable link which says "Show me more from..." I would assume Google doesn't show you tons of results from the same website so you can have a variety of sources to go to. Wouldn't it suck if the first page of results were all from the same source?

In terms of SEO, competition is a factor but I've found it's always more important to look at what the top guy's SEO looks like.

There are a lot of common words that can be put together in a long tail keyword - this makes Google show millions of "competing" sites. But in fact, none of those sites are actually trying to rank for that term. You can get on the first page very quickly and I've done it many times.

That's just one example, but you should combine competing sites with the SEO skills of everyone on page one and then get a feel for if you can compete effectively. In most cases you definitely can and win!

great answer thanks for that. you've pretty much perfectly answered what I wanted to know!

What would you suggest I use to analyse my competition?

Here is a link to one of my first posts on this forum which nobody seemed interested in, but it relates to what you asked.
