Lets say you are targeting 2 or 3 keywords in an article. The first one will be a good keyword that you will most likely be able to rank for.

For the second keyword, do you ever target very high competitive keywords, just in case you can get some traffic from them? Or do you make your 2nd and 3rd keyword that in your same list of keywords that you will most likely be able to rank for in google

I only try to target one keyword per article and make sure the keyword density is acceptable

I like to stick to one keyword per page. The only exception is if the two keywords are plural or singular, in which case if you rank for one the other one becomes nearly automatic.

The reason I like doing it this way is to isolate all possible variables if I am struggling to secure that top spot. If I'm going for a bunch of keywords on the same page, isolating variables becomes tough and I have no way of knowing exactly why I'm not ranked.

Everyone has their own style, but doing one keyword per page has worked well for me and my clients. Test out different methods and see what works for you. Good luck.

Only target high competitive keywords if you plan on building a lot of high quality backlinks to the page in question.

      • I will typically do a combination of both, it really depends on the following.

        • the keyword itself
        • the market or niche
        • the current level and difficulty and competition for the keyword
        • the type of articles that are out there and have been indexed and cached by the engine over the last 60-90 days
If you are targeting a very high competition keyword it worth doing a quick 10 second LSI view of googles index.

For example if your keyword is

        online business

do a quick search in google using the below search command

        ~online business

If there is a keyword or two such as internet marketing, effective internet marketing, etc

It may be worth adding them in somewhere near the second half to bottom of the article, NO WHERE NEAR THE TOP OF THE CONTENT....

I have been doing a lot of testing lately and have been getting very good results in lots and lots of markets.

But test both out for yourself and see what sticks.

The articles that I push are typically 800-1200 words, so a little long but they work very well.
