Just wondering if this has happened to anyone. I have a website that is number #1 in google for the last 3 days only at certain times of the day. Then my website won't be #1 anymore it will be on page 2 near the bottom this is for my main keyword. Is this normal or not?

Yes, this is completely normal and it's called the Google dance.

I've seen this happen with hundreds of websites and if the SEO has been done right usually 9 times out of 10 after the dance is over the website positioned even better then before.

Since you were #1 at one point, I don't think you have much to worry about. Just keep doing clean link building and you should be fine. Good luck.

Interesting in that I recently experienced the identical phenomenom. Over a two day period I watched my site toggle between the first position on page one and the last position on page two where it eventually took root.

Several months ago, google walktzed with my site flitting between page 33 and page 2 before seating itself on page 2.

When google dances like that, I interpret it to mean their algo is trying to decide what I deserve based on link activity, etc.

Consider that kind of movement a move in a positive direction?

Yeah, I just had a year old site go through the dance across the board for all my keywords I'm targeting. Just stay patient, it's rough I know. =)

This is interesting as I was wondering about a similar issue - I have a site that shows up in the 2nd spot of page one in Internet Explorer but then in Firefox it shows at the top of page 2. Is this the same "google dance" when it shows up in different spots in different browsers?

I do get the same problem. My page was in #2 for 3 weeks but dropped to #7 after that. For some other keyword It dropped to #15. Do You think that can be improved again with link building?

I would definitely think so, do some more link building and add good content on a regular basis optimizing it for your keywords. I find google really likes lots of good content.

Google always love fresh content... but you need to back it up with quality links to maintain its position, at least on first page.
