Do you record every backlink you make?

I am fairly new to IM, so I have not gotten to the point to where I can outsource my backlinking, so this is something I still put a lot of time and effort into.

I wanted to get some ideas or thoughts on how to best document or keep track of backlinks I make.

I started out by recording each backlink I made for each website I have into an Excel spreadsheet, but that did nothing but add a bunch of time.

I am now just creating Master Lists of the websites I can easily go get backlinks from.

    Yes, Normally I used to record the backlinks which I get. I record these details in excel file. That really help me to check out the time which I spend on SEO works as well as to take decision regarding future link building process too.

    In the past when I was doing manual backlinking I've used GoogleDocs spreadsheets to track good Web 2.0 sites that I could get reuse for multiple sites.

    Such as the Angela's Backlinks sites...

    Wow that would be a waste of time.

    What's the point? The links will stick or it won't. The time you spend "checking" could certainly be put to better use.

    The only reason to maintain a list of back links is if you have several quality sites that you can recycle with new projects.

    Otherwise move on.

      I came to the realization pretty quickly that documenting each backlink I made was way to time consuming. I am now just trying to build master lists of profiles, blogs, forums, etc. so I can use them on future projects.

      The end goal though is to outsource backlinking!

      There are plenty of reasons to keep a list of your backlinks.

      For example, if you create a huge amount of forum profiles you can then run a list of your profile url's through various pieces of software to see if your links are still in tact or if your profile is still alive.

      By doing this you can create a list of sites that allow profiles and won't delete them so you can focus your time on those sites and stop wasting time with the ones that delete them.

      Additionally, you can also run a list of your backlink url's through software to see whether they're indexed or not.

      It's easier to get existing backlinks indexed than it is to create new backlinks and get them indexed.

      There are many reasons to keep track of your backlinks. I don't keep a list of every single backlink I create, however, I do have a list of all the forum profiles I've created and all of the web 2.0 sites that link to my money pages.

      I stopped trying to keep track of every link I made. Way to much time involved that can be spent elsewhere. I try to follow the packs one by one and not worry to much about it.

    I have a list of high PR pages (6+) other then that I don't keep track. To me, I want the ability to re-access the really good ones if I want

    Last time, I did recorded all the backlinks details I've done (URL, PR, Keywords used, Website Type, etc.) in excel. But at the end, I don't feel comfortable with that as I've wasted a lot of my time doing that. 1 backlinks record avg time = 30 secs - 1 min.

    But there's gotta be pros & cons, for me... I don't anymore

    I only record link exchanges, that way I don't get screwed.

    I definitely don't record every backlink I make manually, if I did I would probably go out of my mind. That would definitely wast to much time and the odds of you checking them is slim. It would be a waste of time if you checked them anyways. As all webmasters know, time is money.

      True but it takes a split second to just copy nd paste these into an Excel sheet and this way you can keep track of everything. Tiem IS money but wouldnt it be better knowing exactly which one of these links are payign off and which ones arent as effective?

    Yes I do, unless these are ones that have come without my knowledge.

    I put these into an excel file. I can then use these to create an rss feed, mass ping or social bookmark them. I'd recommend you do the same too.

    Recording the backlinks? Its really a big waste of time. As you do more, you will see there are ways to get tens, hundreds and thousands of backlinks for a site along time, and I don't think you can continue recording all backlinks. The links either stick, or they get removed, I believe you would help your self better if you could use the recording time to find ways of getting more links from more domains.

    I think the important thing about tracking them in an excel file is so you can go back and have your outsourcers boost those backlinks you have in your excel file after you've made enough money to pay for it. That will make all of those backlinks worth a lot more.

    I only record the backlinks from authority and high PR websites that I can boost further.

    However 80% of the backlinks don't get recorded

    I think that keeping a log for every link you build is a very time consuming task. Use your time for gaining more links and writing more unique content

    I also record every backlinks i made so that i can comeback to them later. Though its time consuming but its worth also.

      I haven't really considered it.

      Normally I just check to see which ones show up in the Yahoo Site Explorer tool to get a general idea of what strategies are producing a backlink and which aren't.

      I realize that this doesn't show everything, but I just keep building links to pages I need to rank higher until they do.

    i dont record the links i made for my own blog/site..but i list useful resources such as forums, sb sites, sn sites...compiling them
