Starting To Climb The Google Serps...Now What Do I Do?

Ok warriors, I am in need of some advice.

I have a music based website that is well over a year old. I had this site developed long before I started to become really educated from the warrior forum. It has been getting minor organic traffic over this past year, but I have started to implement SEO and Backlinking methods that I have been learning on the warrior forums.

Here is my scenerio: I started to target 4 keyword phrases about 2 months ago that are pretty dang competitive and get a good amount of monthly searches. The highest being about 15k global per month.

I first paid for 1000 directory submissions. I had them done in 250 weekly increments and have gained quite a few backlinks from these submissions.

I also started to do quite a bit of blog commenting which has also really boosted my backlinks.

After doing these two things, I was sitting on page 3 for all 4 keyword phrases.

I then subscribed to Angela's backlinks and threw one months worth of backlinks at my website focusing on those keywords. I have been using the Google Slingshot method to get them indexed.

Last week, my site pretty much fell off of the SERPs for those keywords as I was experiencing the Google Dance. Then 3 days ago I checked my rankins and I am not sitting between positions 9 and 12 for all for keywords! This is very good news.

I am sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give you some background on the matter. So, now that I have gotten this far, I basically don't want to screw up my rankings, but I am greedy and want those #1 spots. I do not want to settle for where I am at.

Should I let things level out for a bit? Maybe add some forum and blog commenting backlinks and then throw some more profile links to my site? Or should I just continue using profile links along with blog commenting and forum posting?

My main goal is to continue climbing the SERPs without screwing up the rankings that I have already gained.

Cheers.

I really think that you are heading in the right direction. You should continue with what you are doing. It may also be a good idea to start adding more pages on your websites. I also use Google Slinger and a free method using IceRocket Free RSS Builder that allows me to create a page full of my profile links or feeds that I can then send to the usual directories.

Thanks for the tips. Would you be able to point me to where I could learn about the IceRocket Method?

Just go to IceRocket and click on the RSS Builder option. All you need to do is enter your keyword (as the anchor text), deep link URL and a paragraph of text or so......done!

          Hi Sixstring,

My experience sounds almost identical to what you're going through. The thread where I was panicking about disapearing from the serps temporarily is here: http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...et-google.html.

When I returned to page 2 after doing the google dance, I simply continued following my own backlinking strategy (very similar to yours) and continued article marketing. Just as heavily as when I began. I am now around position 4 and I expect to continue to move up.

I would keep doing what you're doing.

          Good luck,
          -Robert

You're on the right track. I wouldn't stop backlinking though. For a couple reasons. You just got to first page for these keywords and you might not have an established spot. Also, you aren't #1 yet! Keep going until you're number one. Grab Paul's and Terry's backlink package and add them on there. Keep up the blog commenting.

Get that number 1 spot...you're traffic will be much higher.

sixstring if you haven't already now is the time to stop and analyze the top ten in your niche.

Run your competitors sites through a backlink checkers and get a good sense of what you are up against in terms of backlinks

Analyze the pages above your for not only the keywords but related words. Check their keyword placement and titles.

This is the fun time. You are knocking at the door to some decent traffic. Don't just go with a formula. Now you can get down and dirty and see what is really working in your niche with those few sites ahead of you.
