Something besides ezine type articles to get backlinks through?

Ever since I started creating Adsense sites I have focused on writing ezine type articles to get backlinks through. But after writing articles and submitting them to a couple of article directories (ezine and goarticles) I have noticed that they have little to any impact at all in increasing the rankings of my sites.

Some of my articles have even been picked up and syndicated but again...even this syndication has had little to no impact. I think mostly because it is readily seen by Google that these syndicated links are coming from articles that are just duplicates of other articles and are thus discounted as the type of backlinks that are considered really valuable.

I have tried forum signature links, blog comment linking, and that type of thing too and again the impact on my ranking has been next to nothing if anything at all.

I mean it's hard to tell exactly since backlinks are not counted toward me by Google very quickly but after several months of doing this there has been very little impact from my backlink efforts.

I am thinking that blog guest posting might be the way to go but I guess I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions with respect to getting backlinks that count quickly.

Other than blog guest posting is there some other way to get effective backlinks that anyone might suggest?

I mean I'd be happy to double my article writing if I felt it might do some real good but like I said, on the whole, the impact of such writing has been little to nothing on my ranking.

The main problem I am having is that a number of my sites are sitting at positions 8-12 and I am having a heck of time getting them to go up higher. I was able to get them to that point by mainly improving the content but now that they have reached pretty high in the rankings nothing I try seems to be doing much good to get them higher against stiffer competition in the top 10.

It's like I have hit a wall that I can't get through or around.

Profile links, look into Terry's packet first (if he has spots remaining) then add Angela and Paul's.

Turn your old articles into Podcasts and then Videos.

Plenty of information around the site. Pick another 2-3 ways of creating links and get started. Since you have so much content already created this shouldn't be terribly difficult to move up in the SERPS rather quickly.

Use any old web property that you own/control to give yourself backlinks. YouTube accounts, social networking sites, and forum profiles can all give you a nice boost in the rankings.

If you have friends or family with old accounts that they no longer use, ask to borrow or buy the accounts.

When you're done submitting your articles to EzineArticles and GoArticles, try submitting them through FreeTrafficSystem. It's free and it can work for keyphrases with weak competition.

Start creating networks of web 2.0 sites. I'm using a complex linking strategy which involves setting up a ton of pages/blogs on each web 2.0 property.

I'm planning on posting a thread on it when I have some free time.. but basically it leverages the internal linking system of each web 2.0 property.

Let me give you an example:

For squidoo, i create around 30 to 40 lenses on around 3 to 4 author profiles. Squidoo automatically links up to 10 lenses in your account. Now.. start commenting on high PR lenses using each author profile. This will increase the PR of your author page which then sends the same link juice to your lenses. What you'll get after the next PR update is a bunch of high PR lenses which pass tremendous amount of quality backlinks to your website.

The basic linkwheel was setup in a way to link different properties together. I use a system that links pages within a property so that it seems natural to the search engines.

The above example is a basic one using Squidoo(even for that there are other ways to improve internal linking between lenses but that takes up a lot of text which I can't quite write right now)

If you do your research well.. you'll find a ton of web 2.0 properties where you can implement a similar system.

Thanks for the input you all. For what it's worth I am trying to get away from gimmicky techniques that involve trying to manipulate the search engines. In the long run it doesn't seem that such techniques last.

I think I will try some guest blog posting. I also read today about blog commenting on a series of blogs related to a niche I am targeting and focusing on building a relationship with the individual blog authors and their readers as a way of getting some exposure to my sites.

I've tried some of the web 2.0 link building/wheel type stuff. The problem with that is that after a while I run out of valuable content to put up and it ends up being more spam junk (i.e. splogs and the like). I really don't want to engage in spam junk building to get backlinks. Not saying that all web 2.0 link building efforts are spam junk. Only that I have a hard time coming up with valuable content that I can use on web 2.0 properties in addition to content for my articles and actual site pages.

I will have to start looking around for some blogs, assuming I can find some, that allow me to guest post about viagra and teeth whitening type of things LOL. Unfortunately guest posts in such internet marketing type niches seems to be pretty limited but then again I haven't yet really applied myself to looking for such blogs.

Thanks again for the input you all. Much appreciated.

Davioli...can you share more about your experience with guest posting? I mean as in how you found a blog to guest post at, what effect it seemed to have, and how you knew that any improved ranking was due to your guest post?

Also what do you mean by link quality? What is it about guest posting that allows you to obtain a better "link quality" than say posting an article at ezine for example?

Any further input you might care to share would be appreciated.

      Thanks.

Firstly, I always do most of my linking in the first two months of setting up an adsense website.

I never put adsense on the website and use a good looking theme that gives the impression the website isn't going to be an adsense one. My websites also have really good content quality as well.

I start by looking for related blogs within my general niche. I don't deal in product niches so its really easy. For example, if i have a niche like toothache remedies.. I go look for personal blogs(this applies to all niches), nurse related blogs, dental nurse blogs etc

I then start by writing a few quality comments on these blogs. After a week or so.. i send a nicely drafted email asking for a Guest Post Exhange. This way the recieving blogger is more likely to accept the offer since he's going to get a link back too. Don't worry about the reciprocal link though.. most bloggers never write back asking for their guest post.. maybe they don't care I don't really know.

Guest posts give you quality links since they're coming from websites that have few outgoing backlinks. Ezinearticles has millions of OBL.. Its easy for Google to see most people are using it for backlinks.

Personal blogs (as mentioned above) are some of the best blogs to target for guest posts. I've seen thousands of personal blogs that have a really high PR because of their Age.

To get guest posts on these blogs you have to build relationships. Go there.. comment on a few posts... and then send an email in an informal manner. Something like "hey.. I'm writing something on toothache remedies.. Id love to get my article published on your blog. Can I send it over? You can publish it after review if you like it"
(don't send that.. obviously customize it based on how you see the blogger)

Thanks so much for the added input Davioli.

I have had some opportunity to guest blog but your approach is one I haven't used yet. The biggest problem is finding blogs where I can guest post in my niches. There just aren't many.

I like your idea of finding personal blogs that might be interested in a guest post that while not exactly in line with their blog might still be of interest to them.
