Links From My Unrelated Blog

I have a blog completely unrelated to my niche sites that is PR4. Its 50 or so subpages are mostly PR 2 and 3.

I've considered putting links to my niche sites in the sidebar, so that they'd provide links to every one of my pages. What I'm wondering is:

a) How much would this help my IM sites (if at all)?
b) How much would this hurt my blog (if at all)?

    Hi bcmwp,

There is little evidence to suggest that "relevance" plays a significant role in determining how much an incoming link helps your site. I don't have the quote in front of me, but even Rand Fishkin from SEOmoz as said the same thing. In other words, I'm saying that you should get some benefit to the sites you're linking to. However, keep in mind that you don't want to get too excessive. The more outbound links you put on a page, the less "link love" it will share.

As far as it hurting your blog, be sure not to link out to "bad neighborhoods". Putting outgoing links isn't going to actually "hurt" your blog, but it certainly could have a negative effect on how it shows up in the SERPS. You'd be sending a very mixed message to google regarding what you blog/page is most relevant for by linking to a variety of non-relevant sites.
