Will changing template affect my SERPs?

Hello everybody

after working my a** for months I finally have sites showing on top 5 positions of G's page 1 for a number of VERY competitive and supposedly high paying keywords (Forex, gold, credit cards KW's) however I see very few clicks which leads me to believe something is wrong with site design. So my question is, if I now change site template, maybe shift around Adsense blocks, try adding maybe Clickbank or other ads, will that affect my ranking? Will Google see it as a 'different' site? Or as long as content, page title, keywords, description, h1 etc tags stay the same , there will be no negative impact?

thanks

marco

Good question. I would answer if i knew the answer. See if there will be answers in this thread. The last thing you can do is to test this yourself (preferrably on the other site/s if you have one).

First of all are you checking your site status on the same computer using the same browser all the time. If you are check on other computers. The reason why you might not be getting a lot of clicks is because when you browse the same sites on google from the same browser your computer takes a cache of the viewed sites and can show your sites as number 1 because you yourself have viewed it so many times. This is especially the case with Chrome and Mozilla. So first off check on other computers

If that is not the problem then changing your template can make it seem like it is a different site. If you are using wordpress a lot of templates change the structure of the web site code. So google does see it as a different web page to a point. You may fall a bit due to this but if you make sure that you web site content as well as title tags, h1 tags, description tags are nearest as they can be to the beginning of the <html> section. So google will know that your site is still around the same basis and might even climb faster. Traffic to your site will make a difference as well so if your not getting some traffic to your site you will see your web page fall abit as well when you make the transition.

I have done this a couple times with some skin care web sites and i usually end up falling about 5-8 spaces but after aweek or so i climb back higher. Also download a SEO template if at all possible. They do make a bit of difference

      Hope this helps abit
