Funny- before I knew that sitelinks were called sitelinks, I used to call them "legs" (simply because they looked like legs under site listing to me).

What do you think are the factors involved in a site receiving sitelinks from Google?

Boy you asked a question that can't be answered quickly.

Google will not tell you, but we can guess.

You must have a high PR site that google loves. Really loves.
But not in a true "love" sense. That is, it is more affected by
your click throughs in the SERPS, high number of clicks, that is.
And clickers not returning to the google search page. That tells google
that people are staying and exploring your site.

    Reputation is probably #1.

Also, you need a good link structure. If you don't need a site map
because all links are readily listed on the main page, you have good
site structure. Your leg analogy was good. Is it a useful leg off of
    your main site?

The last small thing I will add is that you probably will not get an
adsense only site to ever get sitelinks. You need to standout with
good content that people have shown a likeness for.

Only time and reputation will give you sitelinks.

    Thank you Paul.

Two of my directories have sitelinks: cannylink.com & dirmania.org.

Other than that they are well established sites, I have no idea how they got them.

I have another site (not a directory) that I have owned for eight years and I would like to receive sitelinks for it.

Although I don't know how to get them, I'm figuring that I should work on branding the domain (the content between the www & .com).

I'd disagree with the HIGH PR part. I have a site that is about 8 years old with not much content. It was a very reputable fashion house in the UK with lots of pics, what I did do when I first started ot market it was to target specific keywords and get anchor links even back in the day.

The site is still only a PR2, its only EVER been a PR 3, however its always remained number 1 for pretty much all the keywords Ive ever targeteted so that probably is a given.

I think that authority and age of backlinks are something that also attribute to it.

    Good luck
