Is there a good book that teaches newbies about seo and how to get ranked well? I know of www.seobook.com, but thats $300/month. Plus on the website they recomend spending a few thousand dollars on backlinks to "gain trust" for your website. The problem is that there are way too many websites on flippa being sold with a lot of traffic and only 50+ backlinks. So, obviously they have good profitable keywords, but good seo as well i would think.

I have a website that I made a long time ago www.blacklabpuppies.net that was on the second page when I first got it ranked and is now number 440+. I have used "Scrapebox" (Some consider it Spamming blogs) for backlinks as well as forum profile links too. Thats it. Although its been quite awhile ago, hardly any of both of those ever showed up as backlinks. What are the tricks to getting a ton of quality backlinks quickly that last? I see websites on flippa all the time that are only a month or two old with hundreds of backlinks. How did they do it?

What are the secrets? Thats why I am looking for some good info on seo.

My long term goal is to aquire websites that have little traffic and dramatically increase traffic and monetize them. Although right now that is a distant goal, because my knowledge in seo and organic traffic generation that is real, is vey limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Adam

I started with the primer basics first....try to get your hands on SEO for dummies....I learned how to lay the ground work from that book then as I felt that i was able to understand how to find keywords, research my competition, etc I was ready to start driving traffic to my site.....that's where the warrior forum can come into play by people offering their personal experimental outcomes that have helped them.

To be honest I love to crank out sites but I am also always experimenting with new methods to see what happens.....sometimes it proves to be of value and something's it's just another junk idea but if you do nothing then you will get exactly that.

Just to give you a jumpstart here are some primal basics.

1] Research - think of topics to possibly wrap your site around. Do you want to make money from adsense ads, or promote either your own products or other peoples products (affiliates)?
2] Write down as many words you think that people would search for when looking for your product, information.
3] Grap your self a keyword research tool (market samurari) or Google Adword Tool and enter each one of those words to see what words have the highest amount of search volume
4] Research your competition to see if you have a fighting chance of beating out other websites in the top 10 spots of Google that are already using those keywords.
5] If you can beat them then buy a domain or use a free platform like blogger and create your content. (this is where the optimization comes into play)
6] When purchasing your url or setting up your website name get your keywords into your url, and your page title.
7] Write the content of your website and ONLY use your theme keywords at a rate of 7% of your overall word count. So if your site has 400 words then only use your main keywords 28 times through the entire site content.
8] Each page on your site should only be optimized for one keyword.
9] Create an RSS feed for your site and submit the feed to as many Rss directories as possible.
10] Setup a Google account. Submit your site to the webmasters tools
11] Find a free tool online to create a site map for your site and submit your sitmap in the Google webmasters tool...if using Blogger then your site map is your site + atom.xml so when viewing your site just put atom.xml at the end copy / paste that into the site map submitter
12] Setup as many social bookmarks for your site as possible.
13] Using pingler.com ping the website, the rss feed, and the social bookmarks.
14] Write few articles (not using your actual keywords) about relative topics and submit the articles to Ezine articles. For instance if your topic is about blue diamonds then a possible topic would be something like red diamonds...they relative but they won't outrank your site in Google
15] Use forum signatures to create backlinks
16] Use profile backlinks to promote traffic

I found that doing items 3,4 and 5 took a lot of my time when I was doing it manually; however, I bought Keyword Elite 2.0 and it has helped me a lot. If you are working with international markets, then that the search results shown are not good for you. It seems to me the product only takes local search volumes. Other than that I love Keyword Elite,

Content should be written with the sole purpose to benefit the readers. So, using such ratio seems to be very funny to me. As little I know, keyword density is now an obsolete concept in Entire SEO industry. Isn't it? Correct me if I am wrong.

You may buy a well reviewed book but 6 months after print the tips and techniques will be out of date.
Personally i like forums the best, because no one really knows what works 100% all of the time the cut and thrust of the debate allows you to form your own opinion.

  • SEO Book isn't really for newbies. It's targeted more at firms and companies.

Planet Ocean offers a 1 year subscription for about $100. I've subscribed to it for years. It is the cheapest single source of quality SEO information. Each month the newsletter outlines what is going on in search, what you should be doing, etc.

This is an affiliate link http://www.internetmarketingiq.com/planetocean

They have a bunch of front end entrances. Different Sites. You can just search for Planet Ocean and find the sites. I'm to lazy to do that.

There is a huge difference between the information you get reading forms and what people "Think they know" and the advice given out over the past 12 years to Fortune 500 companies by professional researchers.

Forums can be great if you know how to get past the misinformation and self-promoters.

Otherwise, don't spend thousands, or hundreds on links. First, there are cheaper link packets to be found elsewhere. Second, you can figure out how to research your own places to find links from a lot of reading on forums and trying for yourself.

    To get you started, Google:

    inurl:"black lab puppies" +"add url"

You can insert any keywords instead of the puppies, and you can expand and change the "add url" to anything you can think of, like add website, add URL, etc, etc, etc... Try different approaches, get creative, and you'll find lots of places to put your link.

    Have a nice day.

Hi...I just posted a question similar to this but found that this thread is very helpful...will these SEO strategies also apply to getting traffic to a youtube or myspace page...I am just getting back into internet marketing, but this time I am looking to get traffic for exposure for my son's music. If I remember correctly google will not index myspace pages so I believe I will have to use a website to redirect traffic to his music page...

Learning SEO is not as mysterious as some would have you believe. A lot of the best knowledge I have learned about SEO comes from simply browsing search engines with different keywords and checking what comes up.

Look at the type of sites which appear on the first page of Google for instance. What are they? Are they social bookmarking sites? Do the keywords match the domain names or titles? After looking at this for a while you get a sense of how things are sorted out and where you could fit in with your own website/webpage.

I got started by picking up an SEO book a few years ago by the Pepperjam CEO (the title of the book escapes me). Granted, some of the material is outdated now, but there are some great concepts there. Also, I would like to mention that you can really improve your SEO skills by learning different technologies. An SEO specialist that knows intermediate level XHTML will really excel at on-page optimization whereas a recent grad who studied advertising and PR might have a particular knack for leveraging social media for internet marketing campaigns.

When in doubt, a good ol' fashioned collegiate education in business administration will do wonders for you. Just my 2 cents.

If your main goal is to get valuable backlinks, one fast method is to create accounts with all the top social bookmarking sites. Now you can leave you website links on these sites. If you have a blog, you can update these sites with your blog posts and leave your link. Of course there is software to automate the registration for all these sites and also to update them with your blog posts and weblinks. In the end you should be able to seriously increase your ranking in the search engines by doing this. There are hundreds od social bookmarking sites, but really, only the top 10 or 20 matter.

For SEO, it's very important to stay up to date. Some optimizer's estimate that major search engines adjust their algorithms more than twice a day. Although most of these changes are not noticeable, the point is that proper SEO techniques change frequently. Don't rely on an old book to teach you the tricks.

Learning SEO is not as mysterious as some would have us believe. Many of the best knowledge I learned about SEO is nothing more than the search engines with different keywords and navigation control what happens.

Look at the kind of sites that appear on the first page of Google for instance. What are they? Is social bookmarking sites? If the keywords match the domain names or titles? After considering for a while you get an idea of how things are ordered and where you might fit into your own website / webpage.
