Do follow links from Facebook groups

I have recently installed the plugin that highlights all the links that are do follow. Wow, it's like being in a whole different place when you are surfing now, hehe.

Anyway, I saw that the links that people post on their wall posts on Facebook groups are do-follow links, but I can't remember that I have received any backlinks to my sites this way.

Do you actually receive backlinks to your sites when you make a wall post on a facebook group or what? What would the PR of this be then?

Thanks

While links from facebook can be indexed (as I know at least one of my apps is indexed) its not as effective as it may seem because they fact is in order to see anything in facebook you must be logged in.

It's obvious a link is a link no matter if it is do follow or not because do follow and no follow mean nothing. Logically one would think facebook would be counted as a backlink but is that proven, well not sure to be honest with you.

Bottom line though if it helps or not, keep in mind that people must be a member and login before they can even see what brought them there to begin with.

That is true, you need to be logged in to view it. Do the Google spiders need to be logged in as well to view it though? Then, it would probably not count as backlinks to your site...

      * The plugin is Quirk Search status. Just Google it.

      James,

Even though you need to be logged in to view content on Facebook, do you know if they block Google bot from crawling their pages?

I've been on paid forums, for example, and whilst none of the pages have been indexed GoogleBot was always in there crawling the various threads. I imagine GoogleBot does crawl Facebook, too.

I could be way off base but even though your links on Facebook won't get indexed, I think they will still be valuable in that the internet is currently heading in the direction of social media properties like Facebook so I think links from those types of sites will begin to hold more and more weight.

No google spider does not have to have login info .. It is not a browser but a bot and as such required permissions does not apply. This is the reason why scripts that have an admin area should also have a robots.txt file that denies access.

With that said though, we have no idea what code facebook has to block spiders either. They could very well block certain sections from the spiders. It is just something that you would have to test if you want to know ...lol

I am not sure. It depends on if you are blogging on facebook or not. If you put a link to an outside blog it does work.

I think I made a mistake. The links are nofollow in most facebook groups. The links on my profile is also no follow.

Anyone else got tips on how to get links from Facebook?

They are all nofollow. But traffic inside Facebook by itself could get you a lot of human visitors. It's one of the top websites people esp young people spend a lot of time on. While google is really just a portal to other sites.

...I never thought about it before but I could see people hacking into sites by masquerading as a bot if it is true that sites set their permissions lower for spiders. That's kind of scary!
