Simple question. Have you tried making some friends such as on warrior or even talking to people you know and getting them involved in your website in some way?

This really is the "secret" to SEO. Once you find a reason for people to come to your site, and to return again, and you are able to get involved, this is going to trump nearly every possible SEO effort you could imagine.

Sure, get some backlinks, and make sure you have good page titles.

    But...

See how YOU can invite people to your site, and then how you can make sure they have a reason to dig deeper into your site, and return again. Get that right, and you will have a money maker for sure.

I don't think I can make it simpler than this. Here, we work with many thousand keywords at the same time using keyword analysis, keyword clustering & keyword filtering methods. I wrote about it in 2004 at WMW, its stilll there in the library.

This whole post is taken from our client strategy planning document. How Google rank websites? (When we say Google, we mean search engines in general )

It can be divided into 2 parts:
    1. Value of the Page (55%)
      • On-page value (20%): A good % of Ranking Algorithms depends on what is said on the target page (theme for the page). For each keyword we assign a target page. [Taken care by section A & B of work plan, please see below]
      • Off-page value (20%): Next big factor is what is said about the page by other internal pages and other websites (links to the page). [Taken care by section C of work plan, please see below]
      • User satisfaction point for the page (15%): How users are reacting to the page. [Taken care by section D of work plan, please see below]
    2. Value of the Site (45%)
      1. Onsite value (10%): What is said on the overall site (content theme for all the pages) [Taken care by section E of work plan, please see below]
      2. Offsite value (10%): What is said about the overall site across the web (links to the site). [Taken care by section F of work plan, please see below]
      3. User satisfaction point for the site (15%): How users are reacting to overall site. [Taken care by section G of work plan, please see below]
      4. Local Value for the site (10%): Which locality is the website targeting? [Taken care by section H of work plan, please see below
(Note: The percentages are just an estimate based on our experience)
In order to get better ranks, we need to concentrate on the above said 7 points for each keyword. For some keywords the competition is lesser and for some more. It is advisable to focus on low competition keywords (generally detailed keywords) first and then on keywords with higher competition (general keywords). There is a trick involved in it, which is often difficult to understand. Let us take an example to explain it
    1. If we work on keywords "abc widgets", "def widgets" (Some random keywords with less competition) without focusing on keywords like "widgets" or "play" in the first few months.
    2. Within few months we should see some good improvement for "abc widgets" and "def widgets" and the surprising factor is the improvement it offers for generic keywords like "widgets". Focusing on "widgets" in the initial months is not advisable as it takes good time to rank for such keywords. Also a site that ranks for other widgets related keywords may do better for keywords like "widgets" and "play".

The first thing is adjusting your website META to your targetted keyword and after that 90% is do backlinking with your keyword to be on the first page of google.
