WordPress - Wasn't That a Medieval Torture Device?

Confession - I have a WordPress Disability.

I am new to the Warrior Forum but not new to IM and affiliate marketing. I have been doing mostly BumMarketing and SEO. For the most part, I have ignored all the advice about GoogleLove and blogs.
Thought I could get around it. I can build static sites as long as I can copy/paste and do minor coding adjustments, and they look decent, but my WordPress sites are pathetic to say the least. I have numerous guides - even WordPress Gold Mine, all of which claim building WordPress sites to be as easy as falling off a log! But my eyes start to cross somewhere among the plug-in's and the themes (am I supposed to know this language?) My "best friend," Weebly, added a blog option recently, and when I added it to my site with a few posts, I suddenly got indexed within hours. Google does like the Weebly Blog, but I've already run into a few limitations because of Weebly's interface. So I guess I'm a believer, after all, and it's useless to fight it if I am going to do any SEO at all. Any suggestions? Word Press for Dummies is available on Amazon. Is that my best bet...or is there something better (aka easier)?
