I'm curious to anyone with the experience. How viable are link wheels still? Even if they all are nofollow links (Squidoo, Hubpages, Wikispaces, etc)?

I still see many people using them and before I set up 10 web 2.0 properties pointing back to a domain, I want to hear from anyone still using them/showing success.

Thanks in advance!

I have the same question as you, but as far as I can tell with my testing I don't think it works very well. This is just from the minor testing I have done, but all the link I have ever put on social websites haven't shown up as backlinks for me, ever. So I would be very interested as well to see if anyone has any specific results. Do you get backlinks from these sites? Has your site moved up in rankings?

They do still work. The key is to use DoFollow sites and randomly link between/among them. Also throw in a few random links to things like Wikipedia. It makes the footprint difficult for Google to catch.

Base on my experience..Link Wheel is still very effective rather than just posting articles with the keywords.. one thing that is also effective is type of posting articles but basically its not link wheel. it follows a different Linking structure.. I have a vid instruction for that...

I learned my current link structure by learning the principles of a link wheel. I don't have it so much of a wheel anymore, but it's all the same idea. I get great great great results from this right now.

I will be continuing to do lots of "link wheels" in the future.

      Travis,

Could you diagram the type of linking you're using?

      Thanks, mate.

I think the key is to build some authority to each part of the wheel also.

I have spent much of the weekend deconstructing the backlinks of various websites that are in the top 10 for the keywords in their URLs.

One thing I noticed was the wide range of linking strategies that everyone used. Some focused on forums, some on blogs, some on article directories, and yes, a few were powered by linkwheels.

There were quite a few sites using this method to a lesser degree, but several, that I am sure all belong to the same individual, were totally powered by linkwheels. The blogs in these wheels were all pr 2 and most were 3 and above. I kept thinking that it must take a lot of time to maintain all of those non-monetized blogs.

It depends on how old the blogs are. If the owner has had them for any period of time they could have earned the pr simply by using automated tools for backlinking to them and updating them every once and a while with some content. Just a thought. But it is definitely worth it to have these type of properties handy and I am starting on some myself now.

What "web 2.0" sites are people using, and what results have you actually seen? Has anyone seen backlinks show up, or an increase in your sites rankings?

Yeah they do still work and you can get some amazing results from building them, it's important you remember to build them correctly, that's the reason so many people are having issues with linkwheels recently, they are all just building, then leaving them.
