Low number of visitors from Google

HI,

For my main keyword, Google external keyword tool says there are 74,000 Exact matches, (broad is 246,000 Phrase is 201,000) that words out to almost 2,500 searches a day.

More info:
In quotes search is 286,000 results
no quotes results is: 1,070,000 results

I am now in the 3rd position for this keyword, and have been there for about the past day now.

Moving up to this position, for a Keyword with this number of searches, I was expecting to get some decent traffic, but when I checked anaylitics, I have only had 18 visitors today from Google.

Any idea why?

p.s. I've checked the serp against multiple proxies, multiple clean browsers, multiple computers, so these are not personalized results.

Which Google do you rank for? Google for different countries show varied results. It might be the case that you are ranking high for google.co.uk, but ranking low for the others.

I would give it a little bit more time...plus - the niche may not be that visited after all...

Seems to be a problem that is posted here serveral times a day
How do you determine on which position you are for your keyword? Do you search for the keyword with quotation marks or without? I ask because some people seem to belife they have to do it wit quotation marks what's absolutley bull****
Maybe you're not on page one in other data centers of google. Look for the lokal searche stats in the usa, maybe they're not that high.

Maybe you should read this thread too : "SERP #2, keyword tool says, 60500 searches. I get 450, Strange???"

        HI,

I read that thread, it seems that person didn't understand the difference between broad and exact results in keyword tool.

        The keyword is:

willys jeep with the web site listed in my signature

No I search without quotes. I test in my browser with different (paid) proxies on different networks.

I also use RankTracker (seospyglass company) and have a list of over 60 proxies loaded in there that it rotates through.

        US version of google (google.com):

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I will give you some input, as to how I would proceed to find an answer. It may or may not be of use to you as I am no expert in this, but I have a couple of ideas.

I would do the search on Google and see how all the listings match up. The title and H1 tag, which is what Google is showing, I believe. How do my listings match up against my competitors? See if you can modify them to be more inviting.

There is also a very high chance that the Google Keyword Tool has given you bogus numbers. You can check this out with a PayPerClick trial. Depending on how expensive your keyword is your trial may be expensive. But you try to limit your expenses my making your ad uninviting

Ok I checked the data and have to say you're right. You're on position 3 for me and the keyword data seem to be right.
Your description that appears in the serps isn't really the best, but with a that high search volume you' should still get more visitors.
The google adwors keyword tool also includes search querys that come from the content network, homepages which included a google search field. I guess that the rankings there are different from the normal ones, maybe this has a great influence on the search statistics.
Try to use gogles search based keyword tool ( if you're lucky and it doesn't refuse to work as it always does for me -.-)

I have a similar thread going on a small forum, (backlinks forum), and one person reported in that is in the same situation. They had a keyword that has 30,000 exact searches per month, and they are in #1. They said they are getting a max of 800 visitors per month. So I am not the only person this has happened to.

I made my description very similar to a site that has been floating around the top 1 or 2 results, that's the reason it is a bit odd, I was testing to see if making a similar description helped, so I will likely change that before long.

The content network searches is something I didn't consider before. I am now running an adwords campaign on google only to see how many impressions I get for willys jeep. I started it at about 12 last night, 15 hours ago, and so far it is telling me that I have 21 impressions. I may try a test running the ads on the content network also and see how many searches I get. 21, Hmmmm.... I do believe I am showing up every time for the search, if the volume is really that low after all this work, grrr.

Looks like I did slip to #4 this am.

What is the other keyword tool that you are using? This?

        Search-based keyword tool

Are any of the paid keyword tools more accurate or will you never really know until you run a adwords campaign and test to see the search volume?

I have checked by alexa and see that for that alexa rank your site is must be visited more than 500 UV a day. Maybe You got visited more than what analytics said, if I see from the alexa rank.

Unfortunately, sites like Alexa and Trafficestimate.com make guesses "estimates" based on toolbar data. I've often found these to be grossly inaccurate. Trafficestimate which makes estimates in a similar manner to alexa says jamiedolan.com got 37,900 visits in the last 30 days, where in reality, my blog only sees 500 - 1,000 visitors a month.

While willysjeep.com does get a couple hundred visitors a day at times, it is no where near 500. The bulk of that traffic is due to highly strategic link building on niche sites. Many of the top 10 results have a link back to willysjeep some where on there site.

While I have not checked the accuracy of analyitics on willysjeep compared to the server logs, I have on jamiedolan.com and anaylitics appears to be correct. I have seen a couple glitches in anaylitics, but, they all have appeared to resolve within about a day.

As much as I would like to believe anaylitics is to blame, I highly doubt it is.

      Thanks
