Hey guys, if you are pretty knowledgeable in the seo field, can you please answer these questions. I published an article targeting the keyword term "get women" and used about 50 of angelas backlinks and submitted it to about 15 rss aggregators. Now heres my question if you scope out the first page of google under the keyword "Get women" you will notice a few things:
1) It has 390,000,000 competitors
2) There arent really anyone targeting the actual keyword on the first page
3) The #1 spot has 65 inlinks
4) scroll down a bit theres an article with no inlinks, and yet it hit the first page
5) spot #3 has 14 inlinks

Also when i first made this article i hit page 8 with no backlinks. when i submitted my backlinks...now i cant even be found on the first 100 pages. Can someone explain that? (i feel like this is part of the "google dance" but to drop 90+ pages seems weird to me) Second is this realistically possible to hit page 1 with around 50-100 backlinks, if so will it take forever to work my way up? thanks in advance!
#gonna

First off I think that you might have made an error when researching this keyword. I haven't done any in depth analysis of the top sites but just from taking a look at what SEOquake says the number one spot has 960 links, #2 has about 1500 and it gets worse as you head down the page.

One good thing I have noticed is that there are not to many really high pr sights on the first page for this term. In fact 6 of the spots are a pr0. Add to that the fact that not one of these sights have the keywords in their title, url, or even description I would think that none of their content is really targeted towards these keywords. Which is a good thing.

If your article is highly optimized for this keyword phrase I would think that you could easily take over page one with no more than 6 or 700 good links, maybe even less. Hope this helps..

bunch of heavy hitters in the top 20 for a keyword that doesn't draw enough monthly traffic. I'm not sure if this is a keyword you want to start off with. Something like 'flirting with women' might be an easier beginner keyword that still fits your niche.

it seemed to me that the first 2 pages have heavy backlinks and the rest dont really have much at all. Not to mention the keyword "get women" isnt very rich on their website

590 exact monthly local search volume, $0.70 avg cpc, and some competition on page one. Why would you go after this? Maybe if you had a huge site and this was just one page, but otherwise I wouldn't bother. There are much better keywords with much less competition.

  • Backlinks work well for ranking very long tail non competitive phrases. As the competition increases you'll find the backlinks don't do the trick because Google has so many other factors to consider in ranking.

Sorry... but backlinks alone are not going to get you where you think you should be... and the people selling the back-linking packets are making their money selling shovels to the gold rush.

Please share some of the other factors... Anything that isn't obvious?

You need to set it to Exact Match when doing keyword research, or you'll be sadly disappointed.

I have to agree with tjcocker on this.

Not that I am trying to discourage you but it looks like the money to be made isn't worth the effort needed.

If you were building a larger dating / relationships / sex-tips site then sure, you'd want to diversify your keywords and write specific articles targeting these keywords but as a stand-alone site it's a keyword that might not generate satisfactory financial results.

I don't think 50 angela backlinks alone are going to do the trick but if you have more backlinks you might as well throw them at the site and wait it out for a month or two and see where your site lands in the rankings.

Many of the top 10 sites aren't very optimized for your keyword so you might see better results than I would expect you to have.

Exactly, or maybe even target several long-tails so you can spread yoru risk and have a better chance of driving traffic through various keywords.

50 Angela's packtes to each page would certainly help I think.

I would also shy away from a keyword that has a really common word like "get" in it. Especially when it's only 2 words long.

You're going to be competing against pages that may have nothing to do with getting women. Pages that have the text "Women love to get nice gifts on Valentines Day" will be in competition with you.

That's another reason why you need to do exact match. Especially on a 2 word keyword phrase.

1-Did you use Feeedage.com to submit your rss to?

Did you have anchor text in your article pointing back to your website or your squeeze / landing page?

Submitting one article is not going to cut it. If that is a unique article, you need to spin it into 100s of articles and submit them to 100s of article directories. Really bomb them. At least one article a day for a minimum of 30 days.

2-True as previous people have stated its gonna take alot more than that the internet is a huge ocean of information and you could raise your up yourself but have you thought of other peoples websites/articles that they are trying to raise up too? So i say its much better to find an seo company.

3-That's not enough. Search engines are very big. Posting on one site is not enough. You have to post for about thousands to have a rank on those engines. Try posting for about 20 a day and you'll see the difference in a week and use many different keywords.

4-As stated above, if you are writing articles to prop up your target sites PR and SERP position, you'll need a lot of different inbound links. When writing articles or blogs, you'll need to concentrate on the right keywords. Take a look at one of my blog posts that will help you with keyword research.

yeah thats disapointing i wasted a lot of time on that....anyway thanks for the help. seems like if i do exact match in keyword tool...no keywords are more than 10k searches a month and the ones that are....are basically impossible comp to beat. 10k searches a month really isnt much at all. doesnt seem worth it
