How long to get "Coming soon" page de-indexed?

Some newbie questions for the experienced here, please.

While I was setting up the site, I had a simple "Coming soon" front page. Now that the site is set up and has been running for a while, googling site:myurl.com still brings up the originally indexed "coming soon" page as it was cached.

1. How long would Google be holding onto this original index/cache? It's not a good thing for people to be seeing "coming soon" on the Google search result page for my site when the site has been "live" and well for some time now..

Second question relates to Wordpress. When posting images within a post, by default, the images are hyperlinked to themselves, i.e. clicking on image takes reader to page with image only.

2. Should I leave these as hyperlinked, or should I remove the link attributes and just leave images as images embedded in posts with no links?

Thanks in advance

    Hi Y2E

G will re-index your page when it believes the conetnt has changes sufficiently to warrant a revisit & re-index..

The best way to do this is withing:

    1. Pinging
    2. More posts that link to this page
    3. more backlinks

    #3 is the most important.

I don't think having the image link back to itself is gonna cause any grief, but I personally just delete the link and let the image sit their by itself..

    I hope this helps

Bruce, many thanks for covering all my questions in good detail. Helped clear it up for me a lot. I've been adding content, so that's no problem. The backlinks... yeah, have to do some work on that front.

One more question I forgot to add, please:

Privacy Policy. Should I let that be included in the sitemap or should I exclude it? Same goes for indexing that page; should I allow it? Thanks again.

I don't see any reason to exclude the Privacy Policy from your sitemap, or from indexation. However, I would nofollow the links to them.

Thank you, Mike. I asked about that last one, because of the few pages that have already been indexed (including the "coming soon"), the Privacy Policy is one of them and sticks out like a pink sheep right now. I guess it's a bit of a waiting game, tat's all.
