Hi Everyone,

My blog currently is on xMarks Theme. It is on Page 1 for highly competitive keyword.

Now, I would like to change the theme to another theme. How can it affect my Blog Theme? Is it risky for SEO purposes to change the theme of the blog?

Thanks in advance,
Orkhan

It should not effect it at all, search engines do not read graphics, so as long as you have the same permalinks, content and SEO settings, it should not make any difference.

Personally I would so no, but I did change my theme around and I noticed that the descriptions for some of them got messed up a little. I think this was due to the fact that I went to the Thesis theme and eliminated the All in One SEO plugin. I would say that you should be fine.

From my understanding WP Themes don't just affect the graphics. It also positions navigation blocks. Google for "SEO theme Wordpress", it looks like some themes are more SEO optimized than others. Or am I wrong? I'd love to get some professional opinion on this subject.

I've changed themes on at least a dozen blogs and never noticed a change in SERP ranking.

    YES IT POSSIBLY CAN.

Now speaking of wordpress themes/templates...not all are "intelligent" in terms of SEO....some do stupid things with header tags and other SEO mistakes. So yes, i would say it COULD influence your rankings.

I agree with GeorgR. It can affect. Check view source from you browser and compare both. If there is some difference then I would be careful on changing the themes or rather not to change the themes.

I think it can most definitely affect your rankings. Not all themes are created equal. When you get something for free like a WP theme, or even if you pay for it, you have to look at who created it. Some people are just more informed when it comes to creating search engine friendly themes.
