Checking adsense keyword competition

I often hear people say things like "keyword XYZ has 7 people competing for the keyword" but where do you find that information at?

    You don't. Impossible. One person may own more than one
    website in a niche for one.

    Second, if you go by found pages in searches, very misleading.

    Too many people claim "I'm #40 out of 45,000,000 competing sites,
    woo hoo!"

    Not even. Those 45,000,000 are just pages with the terms. Most
    are not competing. In fact, google will only show you the top
    1,000 or so. Out of those, maybe 100 are actually actively
    competing. The reason is that 75% of the search results are
    not really what you are looking for. Google knows this. Get to
    page 5 and the results are just nonsense.

    But there is no sure way to know how many people are competing
    for your same keywords. New people build websites daily.

    Another way is to do a search. Look through the first 2 pages.
    Those are your real competition.

      Oh, I must have been unclear... Im talking about competitors bidding on keywords in adsense. Sometimes I have seen people say there are "only 3 bidders for this keyword phrase so its not worth targeting"

      Sort of like that, Ive seen it a few times mentioned off handedly.
