Hey if you're not familiar with Traffic Equalizer, you can just go to your favorite search engine and type in the word and find stuff about it.

Why did it stop working?

Maybe it never did... but I'm sort of new to all this and it seems from what I've been reading that Google, to be specific, wants original content, not page after page of auto-generated content.

But that can't really be true, because people have had a lot of success with auto-blogging where content is pulled from other sources. Is it because each of those blog pages appears "unique" that auto-blogging succeeds where Traffic Equalizer ultimately fails?

Just wondering, thanks for the help and advice.

Uniqueness was part of the problem.

Another one was the high number of TE websites, each of one was leaving fooprints. Google may well have pointed to a solution tailored around those footprints.

Furthermore G's algorithm has changed since then. Having a website with thousands of pages means nothing nowadays (if don't call for a penalty just for this).

On the other hand, even if you are able to build a site (or network of sites) with thousands of pages and make it look legit avoiding the various penalties that have since been made, certainly you can automatically generate content much better than those of TE.

thats it exactly.. It is still working.. No matter what the "ill-informed" are saying..

I wrote my own version of TE and I still have a bunch of these sites at the top of G. Some of these sites have been up since 2005/2006 (still ranking after 5 years!!)

So yes the still work, all you have to do is think outside the square, make different templates and you are away!!

    Its that simple..

      Everyone, thanks for your replies.

Since I wasn't really around back when TE was at its peak insofar as popularity, is it fair to assume most monetized these sites with AdSense or the equivalent? Today, I'd be willing to guess that some CPA offers might be another viable way to monetize any traffic generated by these types of websites?

I've already activated a few websites that have hit Google's top 10 just using simple Wordpress blogs filled with unique 100 word entries combined with tons of backlinks from all the "usual" sources. The only twist is that I used aged domains that were keyword specific. MAybe that kept them out of the supposed Google sandbox, if one even really exists?

Another way of looking at this is not to ask "why they stopped working", but to ask "why did they ever work in the first place".

In my opinion, Google never cared much for these types of sites. If they did, then Yahoo or Bing pages would be at the top of every search. After all, TE's pages were very little more than copies of other search engine listings (often, their own listings).

At the peak of TE's popularity, it was Yahoo that was indexing them "en masse" and it was Yahoo that was driving traffic to them.

This was mainly due to the fact that Google was making such huge gains in total number of pages indexed that Yahoo was falling far behind. In an effort to play catch up, Yahoo found these sites (with thousands of pages with keywords stuffed up the wazoo) to be easy fodder for their indexing. Since those "glory days" Yahoo has given up on trying to catch Google and today concentrates of other means of getting traffic to their search engine (Answers, YahooBuzz etc).

Yes, some of the pages can still rank for odd keywords but even Yahoo grew weary of them and stopped indexing them in huge quantities. Today article marketing, article spinning, drip feeders, video feeds and rss feeds have taken over as a means of providing content rather than simply copying search engine listings.

So, both respondents above are correct in their own way. You can still get a site indexed, depending on the topic, but it is not likely that you could use it as a total business model on its own anymore.

    Just my 2 cents.
