Tagging & pinging question

Hi all, my first post here.
I have a question about re-tagging old posts: should I ping them again after doing that, or would that be considered spamming the pinging services?
Many thanks,

I would personally link to those older posts in a new post. Then when you ping that the spiders will follow and index it again.

Sounds like a good idea. I will start working on that.

Never ping unless your content has changed. I ping tags when I have created a new post, but I do not ping the tag then I have just updated (not edited) since technically the content (the tag) has not changed.

    Cheers

That was what I was kind of thinking of, if tags added are considered new content or not. And I guess if I read you guys right, it's not. The thing is I wanted to tag my old posts since I realized how important tags in posts are for traffic. And I didn't want to risk to spam the services by pinging like 100 times in an hour when re-saving already published articles. Anyway, I removed my ping list when doing it. I'm using wordpress on my own server.
