Mini sites result and some help

Hi - new to the forum and especially new to internet marketing. Figure I'll start off by sharing my progress and hopefully get some help on it. I read through the entire threads by xfactor(great stuff).

First thing I did after reading that thread was to not to ask questions or find more information but I just sorta... just do it. I spent 1 month so far and have created about 39 of those mini sites and here are the results so far below.

  • 10 sites are currently on Page 1 (highest position is #4)
  • 14 sites are on Page 2
  • The rest are either in the 100s or not index yet
It was really basic when creating these types of site. I just did the necessary keyword research using the google free keyword tools. I downloaded that seo plugin thing that allowed you to view Pagerank and Domain age and # of backlinks. I just went with any keyword that have a exact domain name available with about 2k in exact search.

My problem thus far...

I used wordpress to create all these sites and used the all-in-one-seo plugin thing. My problem is that when the search engine index my site, for the description they always seem to just pick a phrase in my article even though I have a meta description that I want shown there instead.

So when I view my page source for my site and at the top it would have
<meta name="description" content="blah blah blah my keyword blah blah blah">

but instead of showing that description in the search engine listing, google would pick one of my
phrase in my content instead. I'm not exactly sure how to fix this and it's frustrating.

Oh and my revenue so far have been jumping around $3-6 a day. That results is actually godsend compared to my other result where I invested about $1k in a program(wpmage) + thousands more for domain names and such and end up making pennies.

Thanks for any help in advance.

G is not going to use your meta tag - it will look for the best way of finding what the searcher is looking for...

      Pardon the intrusion.

I am somewhat confused. If G does not use the meta tag, then why do so many WP plugins concentrate on meta tags? Including one of the favorites - All in One SEO Pack.

      Thanks.

As a side note... I have a new website which just recently got indexed and in google results it does indeed show word for word what is in the description meta tags (which I added manually). (actually, I should say "it did", because the site seems to be doing the dance today and is back to showing what it showed some days ago instead; we'll see)

From what I read so far, that meta description is best used as an ad for visitor. So is there no way to control what the content will be when it shows up on the search engine?

              Hi Howhai...

Thanks for your post. I'm in a similar situation.

Can you tell me what plugin this is that you used? I'd be interested in using it also.

Did you find WPMage to be a great tool? That's a really steep price. Were all your blogs created with this?

Also, are these product sites you created or more like review type sites, which would have more content? Do you have a lot of content? How long did it take for you to get on the first page of Google?

              Thanks so much,

              Liz

As a default, G shows your keyword in context as found on your page.

Some SE's do use your meta description in their listing. G does sometimes use it - not sure why or when or how it decides(?!?)

The following code was posted back in 2006, not sure if it still works...
Add this line of code to your HTML in the head...

It was supposed to force G to show your meta description
                Give it a try...
