I've been looking at some keywords and they are paying as much as $20 a click. Having the right content can make you lots of money with these keywords, but is Adsense still around as lucrative and easy as CPA or IM? It seems that not many people are using that as an income source or am I wrong?

Far from dead, with many marketers (myself included, testing the waters) doing things such as the "Xfactor or Clickbump" methods, Adsense is still a very viable monetization technique.

The key is rankings and keyword research/optimization.

I also personally think that a mixture of adsense and other monetization methods is the real winner here. Finding that "balance" is the key.

Adsense is still alive and well. I think the key is just to make it one part of a multiple stream of income approach.

Adsense is pretty much alive. It's a tougher game
though than it used to be 5-6 years ago.

The real value of Adsense sites is that they sell
very well on Flippa and you can always get 10x -
    12x monthly earnings.

Per click, I find affiliate marketing makes me more
than adsense, but it takes a lot of tweaking in most
    cases to optimize affiliate earnings.

While CPA and affiliate marketing often yields more money than Adsense, it is far from dead. You just have to properly optimize your page for the greatest CTR and pick profitable keywords to build a website around. Also, once it's making a decent amount of money, you can flip it for some good cash.

Adsense is in no way a method to get lots of money in a short period of time, unless you really know what you're doing and are willing to invest in a lot of domains.

Thanks for the encouragement ! I am just starting a large project of creating many sites designed for adsense. I would really hate to do all this work for nothing.

I did also start a project mainly for adsense as well and at it was very slow to take off and I was wondering the same thing whether I am wasting my time or is the adsense dead.

But now it is starting to give some returns and it is really encouraging if you wake up in the morning and open your adsense account and you have made some decent money. I think, with adsense it is slow to take off and lot of people just give up too soon before they start seeing any returns.

      Nope.. Adsense is not dead..

It just harder than it was..

I've been doing Adsense for about 6+ years now. Sure it was easy back in 2004/2005 but now you have to think outside the square.

      Its still the same routine:

      1. Find a profitable niche
      2. Find content
      3. Create website
      4. Get links

The more automated you can do the last 2 the better off you will be.

      Take care

The $20 clicks are being spent on search only, so don't expect to get any from adsense.

I've had a few $4 clicks recently, but most are around 40c.

    adsense is not dead.
i think no one use it as the only one source of income.
it is only a part of income.

I made loads when Adsense first came out and my core audience (geeks) liked clicking on the ads. Now they don't, so I have moved onto other niches.

If you do some thinking then you can make big money on adsense. My latest click through rates are 20%+, which is very nice indeed.

Create an optimized page for adsense, with cpa banners and links scatter throughout. This in my opinion is the best monetization method.

The 250x250 adsense block in the middle of my main body gets me the best CTR.

It is absolutely not dead. But the hype with all the eBooks from the so called "gurus" (back in 2004) is pretty exaggerated. But, No its not dead. You can still earn a lot of money from it if you put in the right effort and work with traffic - and content if you want the visitors to stay.

But I would not choose it as my main moneymaking project. Or hmm, that maybe depends on what you are doing. I mean, if you are doing a big autoblogging-project, using AdSense isn't a bad idea at all.

There's one site that I got to crack into the top 5 spots for a very popular keyword. For a long time, I was trying to sell a ClickBank product with no luck. So I started collecting e-mail addresses. That helped me build a big list but again, still no luck getting people to actually buy something.

So I added AdSense to the website's front page (where people come to when they find it after searching for the keyword). Almost immediately, this site started averaging $24 per day in AdSense!!

With the opt-in list, I just started sending them to "newsletter" pages back on the main website that, you guessed it, have AdSense on them. I have that setup as a separate channel and it's making money left and right.

Okay so get this. I then studied the ads and saw what kinds of headlines and ad copy were getting people to click. I then tried finding a ClickBank product that would basically give people what they'd be looking for by clicking on one of those ad links. I created an AdSense look-alike type thing where people who'd click on it would be sent to a CB product. I sent a little bit over 100 hops and NO sale. (??) So back to AdSense... and the money started coming in again.

I'm going to be trying a 4 day cash machine thing with the list to see what happens.

But I'd say AdSense is far from dead. In the case of this website, I don't have a clue what I could do to otherwise make it profitable. I guess maybe see if I find some CPA stuff that would be a good match for it?

But anyway AdSense isn't dead, for sure not. I've got a bunch of other sites that pretty much only make money because of AdSense.

      Great information, thanks SEOpoints.

I am kind of in the same boat. I have a website where I was selling ClickBank products that was actually doing ok. But then recently about two months ago they just stopped getting any sales at all, and I have no clue why.

So now I'm going to try placing some Adsense on it and see if that helps. And in the meantime I've started building site specifically geared for Adsense. Essentially diversifying my IM portfolio .

No, it is not dead. Just make sure to write informative articles on your website, no trash, and no 200 words quickly put together page. Also be in total compliance with the Google TOS. Then you should be ok.
