This not a thread to show off or brag. I am posting this thread to get some advice and I am hoping this thread can be a motivation source (no matter how small) for some warriors.

I started my blog around September 2009. I was a total newbie(and still am). To give you an idea of how new I was, when I bought my domain name, I entered the url and went to see my blog, but couldn't see anything. Yes I thought when you buy a domain, you go to your site and the site is already there, you just start adding articles! I was clueless.

So you can imaging at the time that I started my blog, I didn't know anything about ranking, competition, niche and the rest. And of course since I was making money online(just a little) with things like paid surveys, gpt sites and any other way I could, my blog become about making money online.

Fast forward 3 months ahead, and I just learned about niche and how you have to build backlinks and this and that. Then I realized what I have gotten myself into! I was in one of the most (if not the most) competitive niche. I felt pretty stupid!
But, I didn't care. I wasn't even thinking about making money with the blog. Just the though of having my own blog with my own domain was enough to make me happy.

Anyway, I started doing everything I have learned and continue to learn til today. I didn't spend a dollar on buying any tool or advertising (I only bought a $27 software, which is a good tool by the way, but I only used it a few times). I have been out of job for the past 6 months, so I didn't have any money to spend any way.

Everything I did was free and with the knowledge I have gained from you guys. I am telling you this, because we know this niche has many big guys who are spending thousands of dollars on advertising and SEO, so I am hoping that others can see that it is possible to do thing without having to spend money. Although I am still not making much money from my blog to even call even a part time job, but I think with a little more effort I can get there.

Any way, I just kept on learning and applying things I learned from people like you in this and other forums. Fast forward to this evening. Today I checked to see how I rank for few top keywords in "my niche", I didn't think I would be anywhere under the 1000, so I didn't think I would even see my blog. But what you know:

Ranking= #75 keywords= making money online

And I rank around 200 for a few other keywords like "ways to make money" as well.

Now, I know for most of you these numbers are no big whop. And I know these ranking go up and down every day. For me just having my bog listed under 1000 despite thousands of other competitors is enough to keep me motivated and going. So I kind of felt good for coming from sep09 and knowing nothing about SEO(I didn't even know what seo stood for until few months ago, lol) to ranking 75 for one of the most competitive keywords in a few months.

As I said in the beginning, I didn't tell this to brag or to say I accomplished something, as a matter of fact I think my work is just begging. I know that as I move higher and higher, the competition will start noticing me and will wan to push me aside. What can I do to protect myself from going down? Is it best to just do what I am doing(mostly article marketing and building backlinks that way) and work as natural as possible or should I be more aggressive?

I know most of you guys are very experienced and have been in the game for years, so please if you think its not really that big of a deal at all, and that is normal and not anything unexpected, please feel free to let me know. I wont be offended. I would rather know where I exactly stand even if its going to be a bit disappointing. That way I would know that I have to work way harder than this, and hopefully eventually get there.
Any other tip for going higher would be appreciate as well.

I appreciate all warriors for helping me and teaching me things that I could never learn anywhere else, unless I would have spend hundreds of dollars taking classes and paying for a coach or mentor.

Although I know I haven't achieved anything yet, I would be happy if this thread would motivate even one person to keep pushing through.
Thank you.

Congrats for achieving this feat mate... It would be helpful and motivational for others to read your post especially this statement.

I entered the url and went to see my blog, but couldn't see anything. Yes I thought when you buy a domain, you go to your site and the site is already there, you just start adding articles! I was clueless.
Anyways, would suggest you to keep getting backlinks and post here again when you are in front page of the Big G.

I basically applied what I have learned from warriors and a few other forums and sites.

Here is what I did from the beginning and of course as I explained above, as I was going along I learned new things, so I got better and learned more ways to promote an build backlinks:

Changed my permalink setting to: /%postname%/ Wordpress dashboard- settings- Permalink Settings- and drop /%postname%/ in the box and save.

Installed the all in one SEO plug-in. All in One SEO Pack plug-in

Installed onlywhire (semi automated bookmarking plug-in) and bookmarked each and everyone of my posts on my blog. Onlywire plug-in

Submitted my blog to as many blog directories, website directories and search engines as I could find. (all free)

Registered with a few forums and started participating. But I mostly use warrior forums these days. Other forums like DP I use once in a while these days.

Submitted all of my articles (around 100) my articles to about 8 top article directories manually. I am also in the process of submitting these articles to about 200 other directories(both dofollow and nofollow) using articlesubmissionhelper. 34 Dofollow article directories

Turned all of my articles to pdf (using openoffice)and submitted to about 6 document sharing directories. download openoffice free

Commented on blogs for a while. I haven't done this that much, maybe all in all about 60 comments on different blogs. I need to do more of this.

Few weeks ago I learned about link wheel on WF. So I used ezine and about 7 web2.0 sites( wordpress.com, blogger and a few more)and submitted one article in each and linked them together.

Although I made a profile for my blog with the url in the profile on facebook, myspace and twitter, I didn't do any social networking. Not very big on that. I barley even use them. But I know I should work on them.

I am in the process of turning my articles to videos and submitting them to video directories. I couldn't find any good free ones, so I just bought big mikes GFX video writer that converts text to video. GFX video writer (not an affiliate link)

That's pretty much it. I hope this can be helpful and give you some ideas as what to do. If I remember anything else, I will make sure to post it here.

I would also appreciate if anyone can advice on doing other things for seo. Thank you.
