Bought A Previously Registered Domain. What Do I Need To Do?

Realized that a domain I purchased was registered previously. (By accident,,, noticed I had some incoming links without having done any link building at all)

The webarchive age is 2006. I'm assuming that would benefit me, even though the domain was not registered to me, and apparently was not registered at all for some months. Or?

What should I do to make sure the domain does not have "issues"? Maybe it was de-indexed, maybe banned, who knows...

So what all should I be looking for before setting up what is planned to be an authority site on this domain.

Thanks!

    Hello Evita

I always check before buying a domain if there was something before there. Not that really matters, but helps me on knowing what will I be dealing with.

I don't believe that you will be punished for any inconvenience that might happend before, with another owner. If you authenticate it in your search engine webmasters pages will tell you if there is something wrong with them, but from my experience I doubt it. But if you are unlucky enough, with the correct procedures to get unbanned you will eventually be.

The only problem here is the linked sites to your new domain. I once bought a domain that was before one of those one million dollar pixel sites, and I've spent like two years trying to not be linked with those similar sites where the previous owner made SEO work on them. But if you are in the same subject, then it will be really positive for you!

My advice here is to authenticate them in Google Sitemaps, Yahoo Webmasters and MSN Webmasters to see if there is a message to be displayed, if there is nothing (I would bet there isn't) then you have nothing to worry about!
