To What Lengths Does One Have to Go to in Order to Get an Adwords account? I have tried everything

This week, my Google Adwords accounts were shut down

I have done everything to get a new account, and nothing has worked. I have used a different computer, with a different IP address, and a different debit/credit card with an LLC I just formed. Nothing works. They will not accept my ads

What changes do you have to make to the actual campaign? Do you have to completely change the content on your web site? (I already got a new domain) Do you have to run completely different keywords?

I have exhausted just about every option, and I think it may be time to kiss this part of my business good bye. Which is too bad, since it was about a 150k a year biz

If the content is what got you banned in the first place, and you are using the same content, you are likely to be banned again. I would say you'll have to change your ad content.

I'm actually thinking about doing a write up on this, because I didn't make my first time either. So I'll say this for now in case you haven't made it yet (and anybody else thinking about trying); to google you are not a person so much as a database. A collection of facts that make up "you." Now imagine that database/you as a velcro covered soccer ball. When you create a new account on ANY google property they dip that ball into a giant vat of raw cotton, and if ANY cotton sticks to that ball they say "well, well, well, look what's going on here, we know this guy-see this piece of cotton..."

Let me get out of analogy territory and just say it; if you bought a domain using your name/address or ANYTHING connected to something you used in the past that google knows about you, it will connect it to your new "you." Nothing can show up from the past. And it's even deeper than that; if you had a profile of any kind with a company that google has BOUGHT like youtube or grandcentral or even admob and you use ANY data from those accounts they'll catch you that way.

You know how you can't delete an adwords campaign and you can only hide it? Well that's how they are about data; they don't throw it away. For them out of sight does NOT mean out of mind. Basically you've got to be a mountain man who JUST clawed his way into society and the first thing you decided to do was advertise on adwords.

I'll fill you in on what has happened to me since I last posted this

I ended up hiring a guy in India to get me back online, and he did. But I still didn't have a credit card I could use, so I had him prepay for the ads each day. But I didn't really like the way things were going, and so I called in a favor and had a guy give me his old Adwords account that he no longer uses. I then created a new website, and started a new campaign, and once again got the dreaded "Your ads are not running. Please contact us for support" message. I thought that option was dead, until 2 days later, when my ad started showing up again!

Problem is, my niches are computer repair products, and Google just seems to have it out for these. So, they slapped me a few times, and then finally just banned me again

Now, here is where things get interesting. I wanted to do a test to see just how much Google tracks, so I had the guy in India set up a new campaign for me. BUT, I copied word for word one of the sites that had just been slapped and put it on a new domain. In fact, I even registered that domain under the same name, address, etc as a site that had been slapped

That campaign has now been running for about a month, with no problems at all

I guess this guy in India must have some secret way of getting Adwords accounts approved, even for niches that Google seems to easily ban. Problem is, I can't really rely on him long term

Sometimes you will get away with a dodgy ad indefinately, sometimes it gets caught within a few hours.

I have had adboxes that were running for over 6 months then I change a single word which re-submits them and they end up getting paused.

If you keep fiddling with them trying to get them to run again without fixing reason they have been suspended in first place google bans you.

I think Googles approval system has a few levels of moderation.

Level 1 - Auto deny. This is based on keyword content they do not like and is automatic
Level 2 - Human verified. A percentage of flagged ads go to a human to be looked at. I think a lot get wrongly paused and a lot also slip through the cracks here so peoples experiences of what works and doesnt work differs.

That’s great news sree94, and I want to thank you personally for coming back and reporting. Especially that fact that you did keep trying. That’s kind of what I wanted to convey, that trying could yield good results-but you had to have no traceable tracks.
Actually the big surprise to me is not that you duplicated a site they didn’t like but that you used your own name/address on the domain. It refutes my experience, because if I understand you correctly, you're saying you used your name/address on domains twice and the only difference is that you built the site the first time (didn't work) and then they India based guy built it the second (did.work).

But I guess it all comes down to once a new account gets flagged and they send in a human for review, and it all depends on who does the review that day. Like GuerrillaIM said I also believe they do a multi-staged review.

Thanks again for your contribution and please let us know if things take a turn downward in the next couple of months.

      Hi sree94,

When you get banned for life from Adwords, it's not you computer, or IP that is banned. It is you personally. Google is very good at making connections, so if you ever use an account, a computer, an IP, an address, a credit card an email or any other device or information that was ever, even remotely associated, you will be banned again. This includes computers and accounts owned by friends and associates.

I had one client that got his account banned because his brother, who was previously banned from AdWords, used his computer one day to login and check his email. Now he can never open another AdWords account associated with himself because he is associated with his brother who earned the original ban.

Sadly, using your friend's AdWords account probably added your friend to the "banned for life" club. Just being associated with a banned person will get you banned.

        Hi Don

This is pretty much how I was able to it get around it myself-no connections. Not even taking a chance by having any friend I had ever (g)emailed create an account for me (if they also had gmail).

But sree94 used his own name on the domain name and that's what threw me for a loop. I wonder if G just let it slide because the reviewer didn't go that deep? Only time will tell.

Now I'm curious about whether sree94 and his friend ever emailed each other, and if either of them used gmail accounts...

In my experience this is not the case. They usually just block payment method. Maybe in some countries they go to greater extremes but I know a few people who got banned and just used a different payment method and name and all was fine.

To be honest the idea that google will ban anyone using same IP or computer as you (detecting mac address or machine ID???) sounds strange unless you are doing some sort of large scale fraud, it is certainly not typical in my experience.

And there you go. I know from experience too.

I certainly agree that in the past people probably did re-enter with minimal changes. But that Dec 2nd and 3rd 2009 mass banning I think was the largest one that Adwords had ever done (I don’t know I’m just guessing on that part, of course). Especially since it was so across the board, and scooped up tuna and dolphins alike.

So I’d be interested in hearing from people who have actually gotten back in like sree94 and I since that particular banning. And if they found the process easy or hard/had to try multiple times.
