Hi,

I'm wondering whether it has any value in purchasing a PR8 domain that has no traffic and very few links? It seems it is a very old domain that was linked to a very major site. I would like to link one of my minisites to this site. Any thoughts. How much might you pay?

Shouldnt the question be how much are they selling it for?

A PR8 domain would be an incredible tool in your arsenal. Linking out from it would have a great boost to the recipients sites. Even selling outbound links alone could net you a sweet $$$$

Unless you are trying to re-sell it, I would stay away from it. If you are looking to get backlinks from high PR sites, the money you have to invest to buy the PR8 can be better utilized by purchasing links from lesser PR sites. Just my 2 cents.

Provided the PR is real, I would happily pay $10,000 plus for such a domain.

There is a lot you can do with a PR8.

Not when it drops to a PR1. This is just a domain the way I am reading it. not an actual linked site. In real time PR (which google doesn't update but every few months) if could already be far from a PR8

    Hi MusicisMagic,

If the domain in question truely has a PR8 (which I doubt) then it either has a great number of backlinks or a handful of very powerful backlinks. What guarantees do you have that those backlinks will stay in place after you purchase the domain?

There is some fraud in the domain reselling business. One of the common scams is to create fake PR, which can easily be done, and sell the domain based upon that faked PR.

Another common scam is to sell a domain, or a website, that has earned a high PR through backlinks from a network that is controlled or rented by the seller. Once the sale is made, those links are yanked and the website and all PR falls to oblivion.

Regardless of what the seller may promise, he has a strong incentive to remove those links to reallocate his precious link juice to something that will benefit himself.

I would approach the transaction with the assumption that you will have a very short window to exploit the high PR. Perhaps you can arrange to pay in installments over time with the understanding that the links will remain in place, else future payment obligations will be waived.

p.s. Since this is just a domain and not a website, it should not be compared to the sale price of a website with the same PR for the home page. PR is assigned to the individual URL, so in a website each and every page of the website will have PR that carries weight for backlinks. An established website would be worth many times the value of the domain (perhaps 100sX or 1000sX).

Even Google has a page rank of 8.. So you can easily understand the potential of a PR8 Domain. However, as many warriors have posted, I would love to spend out XX,XXX$ in the high end for a domain with PR8 from a trusted buyer and the domain having some great backlinks..

If it has no traffic and very few backlinks, as you said, then my guess is that the PR is either faked or it will drop significantly in the next update.

If is a real PR than it is really a great domain. PR8 means a high authority domain that can be very useful.

I don't understand the concept of a PR8 domain out of the context of the website it is connected with. Without the website content, backlinks, etc., where is the value?

A PR8 website is worth a great deal. The domain stripped of the website, much less IMHO.

Prices for PR8 domains start at around $2000. In my experience they have been worth it, but it all depends on the site. You must weigh your options.
