  Actually, my favorite SEO tool/method is using a good old fashioned AdWords test campaign (ala Perry Marshall). It is short, sweet and cheap and always results in 100% A+ keywords with which I optimize pages with.
  
  Plus, it almost always results in finding a few, "pure gold" keywords which I would never have thought about.

Most tools gather their data from google anyways. Personally I use Market Samurai......I'm not using Keyword Elite anymore as it brings too much garbage.......Google keyword tool plus wordtracker are still super cool tools. Don't forget to use keyword expert.

Pretty much all the Google Tools, especially the sandbox tool for traffic estimatation and CPC, great for adsense.

For PPC marketing and other analysis I use traffic travis, traffic travis It is a great tool, heaps of features and the basic very does lots is totally free.

If any of you know Mark Joyner, it is basically one of his creations, through Affilorma.

In addition to some of the tools that have already been mentioned, I use CSE HTML Validator, almost on a daily basis, to check if there are "problems" with the source code that could affect spiderability and rankings...

I have started using Market Samurai - combines quite a bit of info and data.
Also look at Google Trends.

For keyword research (a bit off this topic): Wordtracker.

Just started reading the book (yeah, that thing made from paper): The Search by John Battelle. Recommended by my coach to understand foundations of search and hence SEO.

As far as SEO tools go, my old favorite is still SEO Elite, it is great for analysis not only of your own website but competitors as well. However SEOQuake is an awesome plugin for firefox.

I find links from high page rank sites (digg, ezine articles, goarticles and blogs etc.) give my sites a huge boost in the SERPs but it took me lots of time until...

...I found SEnuke and the community that surrounds and supports it.

I am actually going to build an offline SEO business around this software it is that awesome.

I have a trial version of Market Samurai that I am using. But, other than putting things in a more manageable format and multiplying a few numbers together, I fail to see what it is doing that is not available using the free tools. A lot of that information can be gathered using adwords external tool + google + a free plugin like SEOQuake or the tools on SEOBOOK. :confused:
