Sandboxed because of topic? Web design site

Hi,

Sometimes sites are "penalized" in the rankings because the are new. It could depend on topic, among other things.

Does anyone know if a new site about "web design" would be likely to be sandboxed cause the topic is what it is?

Anyone with experiences?

    everything you said... is wrong.

the sky is not falling and stop paying attention to newbie seo paranoia.

chances are... your site doesn't deserve to be ranked any higher than it currently is.

      Hi silvercap,

The "Google Sandbox" is not real. It is an imaginary construct often used by webmasters who fail to recognize the short comings of their SEO tactics.

It is true that Matt Cutts of Google has acknowledge a feature of their ranking algorithm that could be perceived as the "Sandbox Effect". There is nothing you do to cause this effect, nor is there anything you can do to avoid it. Simply put, it is just part of their ranking system that assigns more trust and higher rankings to older pages simply because they have stood the test of time.

My advice to you would be to study and seek to understand Google's Webmaster Guidelines. If you stay within those guidelines you aren't going to need to worry about any sort of penalty.

Google ranks pages based upon relevance. Learn what elements effect relevance and how promotional efforts impact relevancy scores and don't worry about things you have no control over like the passage of time.
